Eddie Brown and his wife Ginny started fixing up cars in their driveway in 2018. They'd find donated vehicles, repair them, and give them to single mothers who couldn't afford reliable transportation.

Then they brought the idea to Louisa County High School in Virginia.

The school's automotive technology program partnered with the Browns' nonprofit, Giving Words, and turned the driveway project into a classroom. Students now spend their school hours working on donated cars, learning real mechanical skills on real engines with real problems.

When a car is finished, the students hand the keys to a single mother for free.

They fix about five cars a year. Over eight years, the program has put more than 60 vehicles back on the road and into the hands of women who needed them.

Brown said they learned early on that transportation was the first thing single moms needed. Not advice. Not a motivational talk. A car. Without one, everything else falls apart. Getting to work. Getting kids to school. Getting to a doctor.

The students get vocational training that actually matters. The mothers get a car they didn't think they could afford. Nobody pays a cent.

What started in a driveway has now spread across the state. More than 60 cars. More than 60 families. All of it free 💛
