True story:
When I was a kid, my mom found a cat on the freeway and brought it home. “Freeway” had kittens and my mom gave us one (my dad and I lived separately from her). That kitten soon became a cat, and “Spunky” soon had kittens. Surprise! Her five kittens were so cute, my dad didn’t want to get rid of them.

So, “Brainy”, “Clawed”, “Spooky” and another whose name is escaping me, stayed our kittens. Well, they became cats too! And got pregnant! Along with “Spunky” again!
In a couple months, they ALL had kittens and we suddenly had 22 cats!

When I tell you there was no man that loved animals the way my dad did, I really mean it. His heart was gold. He found homes for all those kittens, without spaying/neutering and vaccinating. He didn’t know, and I didn’t learn til much later, that this adds to the crisis of overpopulation, and leads to their suffering.

I think it’s important to remember that shaming people for not knowing is not helpful. My dad was an avid animal lover. He only earned $10,080 a year in his best year, so he had way more love than dollars.
I try to remember him and where I came from when I’m trying to help cats and their caretakers.

FUN FACT: About 95-97.5% of cats that end up in animal shelters don’t get reclaimed by their owners. RIP sweetheart. You deserved better.

New Year’s Eve is almost here, which means fireworks...
Every year, there is a massive influx of lost and found animals, disoriented and terrified. How are they supposed to get home if they aren't wearing your contact info?
NO TAGS? NO EXCUSE.

🚨 PSA: Please Stop Cat-Napping 😼 🚨
You see a friendly cat.
It has a collar.
It looks healthy, confident, and slightly judgmental.
So you think:
👉 “Oh no! This cat is lost!”
👉 “I’ll bring it inside, feed it, and post on Facebook!”
👉 “If no one claims it, I’ll take it to the shelter.”
🚫 Record scratch. Let’s pause right there.
That cat?
✔️ Probably has a home
✔️ Probably lives within a few houses of where you found it
✔️ Probably just out doing important cat business
Here’s the important part 👇
When friendly, owned cats are taken inside or to a shelter, bad things can happen.
Shelters are full.
Cats are stressed.
Stress = sickness.
Upper respiratory infections.
Calicivirus.
Diarrhea.
You name it — cats can catch it when they’re stressed and housed near other cats whose medical history is unknown.
💡 So what SHOULD you do?
🐾 If the cat is friendly and healthy — don’t bring it inside.
🐾 If you already let it in and gave it a snack (we get it) — open the door and let it go back home.
🐾 Post on Facebook:
“Friendly cat seen in the neighborhood today — hoping their people find them!”
Bonus tip: If you’re not friends with your neighbors… they’re never going to see your “FOUND CAT” post anyway 😉
🙏 Please, please, PLEASE stop cat-napping.
Friendly cats with collars usually aren’t lost — they’re just living their best lives.
Let’s keep cats healthy, stress-free, and at home where they belong 🖤🐈

Wow, many opinions and comments. If this was a perfect world, cats would be kept inside, but this is the real world. This was meant to help with the owned cats that get taken to the shelter...
take a field trip to the shelter sometime or maybe help volunteer with your local shelter to see how being in the shelter is for these cats.
