We received a call Monday evening from the Flatwoods area of Braxton County, WV — Thor had wandered away from home and hadn’t come back.
Thor is an older dog with hip problems, which made the situation all the more urgent. Due to scheduling, we weren’t able to arrive on scene until early the following afternoon.
After scouting the area for flight safety and interviewing the owner, we deployed the thermal drone and began gridding the areas Thor was known to frequent. After two battery sets and a large search grid covered, we made the call to follow the stream corridor — and almost immediately picked up a faint thermal signature in a nearby swamp. Switching to the color camera confirmed it: we had Thor.
We landed, went in, and got him out.
Thor is home safe, and that’s what matters most. We’re grateful for the trust placed in Longspur SkyDog Drone Services and proud to do this work. 🐾

Behind every lost pet recovery are real costs that add up quickly. A recent case is a perfect example: thermal drone flights, trap rental, and security camera monitoring totaled $910. That family’s bill will never be paid—because we did the job for free.
We make these decisions regularly. When a family is already devastated by a missing pet, we’re not going to let finances be the barrier that keeps them from getting help. But the reality is, we can only continue saying “yes” to families in need if we have community support backing us up.

Earlier this winter, we were honored to assist with a recovery in Upshur County. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Reuniting pets with their owners is truly a blessing, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in such meaningful ways.

A local business helped reunite a family visiting West Virginia with their lost dog, Suki, after she was lost during a family trip.

Many people know us as deer trackers, and while we’re incredibly proud of that work, at our core we’re outdoorsmen and women who care deeply about reuniting families with what matters most to them. Whether it’s helping a hunter recover a harvest or bringing a beloved pet home safely, we bring the same dedication, tracking skills, and problem-solving to every call.
Nyx’s story is one we’ll never forget. She had been missing in the Buckhannon area since mid-December—surviving alone through eight brutal weeks of sub-zero temperatures. When we were brought in as consultants in mid-January, we knew time was critical. We deployed our thermal drone on January 31st after a confirmed sighting, searching the area thoroughly.
When Nyx started appearing more consistently, we knew it was time to act. We set a box trap on February 2nd and began the patient work of monitoring and waiting. After several heartbreaking close calls where she came so close but didn’t quite commit, today everything finally came together. Nyx is trapped, safe, and heading home to her family!
We want to thank the landowners who allowed us access to their property to trap Nyx, and all the community members who kept providing accurate sightings and intel. These recoveries take a village, and this one wouldn’t have happened without your cooperation and vigilance. Thank you!
Eight weeks of surviving winter alone. Multiple attempts. One incredible ending. This is exactly why we do what we do—combining traditional woodsmanship with modern technology to bring families the endings they desperately need.

We are hopeful we’ll catch Nyx very soon. We refreshed the trap, and she came back to investigate — which is very promising. She’s also been seen visiting other areas along the trail.
She’s hungry, she’s scared, and we just want to get her safely back home where she belongs. Thank you to everyone who is keeping an eye out and supporting the effort.
