🚨HARALSON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER UNDER QUARANTINE 🚨

Due to a suspected outbreak of Parvovirus, the Haralson County Animal Shelter is under mandatory quarantine as recommended by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

The affected dogs contracted the virus before arriving at our facility. Unfortunately, because symptoms don’t always appear right away, the infection wasn’t detectable during intake. These dogs were found abandoned roughly 500 feet from the county line—just one example of the increase in abandoned, stray, and pregnant animals we’ve faced this year. Many have come from “just over the line” from a neighboring state.

💉 Please vaccinate and spay/neuter your pets.

🚨 If you see suspicious activity—especially someone “dumping” animals—say something. Snap a photo if you can and contact us. We’d rather check and find nothing than let an animal be discarded like trash.

We’ve worked hard this past year to turn things around and better serve our community, but this virus is spreading rapidly across the Southeast. Heavy rain and extreme heat have only made matters worse.

We are taking every precaution to contain the virus and keep the animals in our care safe. This is a serious reminder: keeping your pets’ vaccinations up to date protects not only them, but the entire pet community.

Our Story

Our Shelter is run by Haralson County Animal Control. Some of the animals who make their way here are owner surrendered, but most are picked up as strays by the Animal Control Officers who respond to citizen calls. We use this page to let the community know what animals are in the shelter, either looking for their owner, or looking for a new family. Thank you for 'Liking' our page, and come see us at the Shelter near the Big Bull in Buchanan! P.S. we have published our hours here on Facebook, but we were unable to specify that on Saturdays, we are only open the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. Come see us on those two weekends!
