When the old man gets his Librela shot and Mr. Spunky gets a brand-new splint... the fun never ends. 🤦‍♀️😂
Lt. Dan may be rocking a healing leg, but apparently nobody told him he's supposed to take it easy. And Cooper? One dose of Librela and he's suddenly acting like he's 5 years old again.
The result: a daily wrestling match between a puppy with no self-preservation instincts and a senior Irish Wolfhound who has rediscovered the fountain of youth.
Our foster home would like to formally request hazard pay. 😅🐾

Meet Simba! 🐾

Simba is a 4-year-old Lagotto Romagnolo with a big personality, a brilliant mind, and some of the most entertaining hair you've ever seen. His life began in Serbia, where he was bred by a well-known breeder before being flown to the United States to join his family.

While we don't know all the details behind his surrender, his family shared that they had a second baby on the way and felt life was about to become too hectic to give Simba the time and attention he deserved. They clearly cared about him and wanted to make the best decision for his future. Simba lived with a young child and reportedly did wonderfully with her, forming a close bond with his little human companion.

One thing that's immediately obvious about Simba is how incredibly smart he is. He knows a variety of tricks, learns quickly, and loves engaging with his people. He's also an absolute character. His signature poofy hair on top of his head gives him endless charm, especially when he gets excited and does his adorable little happy-foot dance. Watching his fluffy hair bounce as he taps his feet in anticipation is guaranteed to make you smile.

Simba is good with other dogs and will happily play when the mood strikes, but he's not the type who needs canine companionship to be happy. He generally seems much more interested in his people than in other dogs.

When Simba arrived, he came with multiple crates—one for the car, one for nighttime, and one for when the family wasn't home. He appears very accustomed to crate life and will often head straight for his crate even when everyone is relaxing at home. We're helping him learn that he doesn't need to spend his free time in a crate and that being part of the family is where the fun happens.

Simba's foster reported one incident of resource guarding with a high-value food item around another dog. We have not observed this behavior in our multi-dog household, but because it was reported, we feel it's important to mention. As with many dogs, proper management around especially prized treats is always a good idea.

Simba is looking for a family that will appreciate his intelligence, enjoy his goofy personality, and give him the time and companionship he deserves. If you're looking for a loyal, entertaining, and exceptionally smart best friend, Simba may be your perfect match. ❤️🐶

Our sweet and spunky Lt. Dan spent the night at the vet's last night. He had sores and an infection from his cast. He was put under and recast. He will be ready for pickup later today.

Unfortunately, we thought his pledged donations would definitely help us with at least the start of his journey when we rescued him just in time from euthanasia, but less than half the people have honored their pledge. This is his third visit so far, and he's set to have at least ongoing weekly treatment for the next 4 to 5 weeks for splint changes, then to reassess at that point.

Any help for him is greatly appreciated. Venmo and CashApp can be found on our website or in the comments. That will help us pay his bills in the immediate. If you don't have one of those, you can use his GoFundMe in the comments (takes us 2 weeks to receive).

Thanks everyone for their continued support in helping us help them.

Lieutenant Dan is settling into foster care exactly the way you’d expect… by acting like he owns the place. 😂

Today’s entertainment includes LTD relentlessly barking at his much older foster brother, Cooper the Irish Wolfhound, until Cooper finally gives him the “alright kid, that’s enough” look. Naturally, LT. Dan’s response is to patiently wait for Cooper to walk across the room… just so he can bark at him again.

Completely unphased by the fact that he already gave rescue and foster momma Deedra a holiday vet scare after his splint slipped off yesterday. Nope. Zero concern. Puppy antics continue at full speed.

Honestly, if determination and attitude could heal broken bones, this kid would already be cleared for discharge.

Please consider donating toward LT. Dan’s ongoing care. Weekly x-rays and cast changes alone are going to add up quickly, and that doesn’t include longer-term foster care, transport once he’s ready, or any additional “unexpected” vet visits when he inevitably decides his cast is personally inconveniencing him.

Because apparently Lieutenant Dan felt the holiday weekend was missing a little excitement. 🙃

While casually walking across the floor, his splint literally just slid right off. No chewing it, no roughhousing, no puppy shenanigans whatsoever… it simply decided it no longer wished to participate.

So poor foster Deedra is once again clocking in for duty 😂 Back to the vet we go with our big-eared little medical marvel.

Help for Dan can be given through our website: www.barking-back

Sweet Bronte and Billie are the last two sisters still waiting for their happily ever after. ❤️

Back in October, we received an urgent plea to help this little family. Their owners had far too many dogs on the property, none fixed, and simply couldn’t afford to care for or feed them all. These babies were only about 2 months old when we got them — tiny, frail, loaded with parasites, and literally withering away.

Thanks to an incredible foster who stepped up without hesitation, they finally got the chance they deserved. Over the next few months, she poured love, care, groceries, meds, and countless hours into getting them healthy and strong. And wow… what a transformation.

When they finally made their way to NY, we honestly expected them to grow much bigger, but these girls stayed perfectly petite. We think they’ll top out around 20–25 lbs full grown — the perfect compact cuddle size. 🥹

Their siblings have all found amazing homes already, and every single family says the same thing: these pups are absolute gems. Sweet, loving, goofy, and just the best little companions.

Now it’s Bronte and Billie’s turn. Let’s find these adorable girls the forever families they’ve been waiting so patiently for. 🐾💕

🚨 Lt. Dan update 🚨

Lt. Dan (formerly Teddy) saw Dr. Baggs yesterday for his orthopedic consult and follow-up. ❤️‍🩹🐾

He was sedated for new x-rays and a splint change, and for now we got the news we were hoping for: we are not currently looking at major surgery in the immediate future. 🙏

At this point, the plan is more of a “let’s carefully manage this and see how his little leg responds” situation. The goal is to help everything set as well as possible while he grows.

The downside? This will require weekly orthopedic visits for the next 6 weeks — including sedation, two x-ray films each visit, and splint changes every single time. As you can imagine, that adds up very quickly.

The doctors do not think his foot will ever be perfectly straight, but they do believe it’s something he can comfortably live and function with, which is a huge win for this little guy. ❤️

We were really counting on the pledges offered on Lt. Dan’s euthanasia deadline post to help carry us through these first few weeks of treatment. Unfortunately, less than half of those pledges have actually come through so far. Rescue doesn’t stop when the freedom ride ends — that’s when the real medical and rehabilitation journey begins.

If you’d like to help Lt. Dan continue getting the care he needs, even a few dollars truly makes a difference when hundreds of people come together. Donations are tax deductible and can be made either through our website at www.barking-back.org (fastest option for immediate care) or through our GoFundMe linked in the comments. ❤️🐾

For now though, Lt. Dan remains blissfully unaware of all of this and is still operating at approximately 472% puppy energy. Keeping him calm and off that leg may actually become our greatest medical challenge according to his deeply disgruntled furry foster siblings. 😂

STAY TUNED for more updates. For now Enjoy these photos and videos of Lt. Dan post-sedation, where he briefly left this dimension and returned with absolutely zero idea what was going on. 🤣 Between the floppy head, delayed blinking, and his very serious attempts to stay awake, this tiny dude looked like he partied a little too hard at spring break. We’re not saying the lights were on and nobody was home… but the loading circle was definitely spinning for awhile. 😂🐾

🚨 Lieutenant Dan (fka Teddy) update 🚨

Yesterday, thanks to an amazing chain of volunteers, Lt. Dan made his way from one incredible foster family to another to get ready for his orthopedic appointment today. ❤️🐾

Within approximately 3.7 seconds of arriving, he had already made himself completely at home — inspecting the cat, reorganizing the toy basket, and annoying his scruffy senior foster brothers like it was a full-time job. 😂 (Videos evidence in the comments)

Which brings us to our current problem: keeping this adorable menace still long enough to heal that leg may actually be impossible.

Today we’re hoping for good news, a solid treatment plan, and the chance to give this little guy the future he almost never got. 🤞❤️‍🩹

Want to help Lt. Dan on his road to recovery? ❤️ Donations can be made through our website at www.barking-back.org (available immediately), or through the linked GoFundMe now that it's live and posted after much rescue chaos and puppy wrangling. 🐾😂

He also has his own wishlist https://a.co/0f8DOqps
