WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY: Who makes SBYEC so special? Jazzy!
Jazzy is a 25-year-old 13.2 hand ½ Arabian mare. She has been a part of our lesson program for the past three years. She is definitely a “barn favorite,” as she exudes lots of s***k, love and personality every day. Her ears seem to be permanently forward, because she is always curious and wants to be a part of the activity.
Jazzy is trapped in a pony body, but has the heart of a big horse. If staff walks by and forgets to say “hi” to her, she definitely sets them straight by loudly whickering and rolling her head at them. We are fortunate to have her in our program and are grateful to Kelly for leasing her to us. Her gentle nature and kind demeanor has made riding a fun adventure for many small riders over the years.
Here, Jazzy is pictured with SBYEC lesson student, at the Black Pearls show at the Clark County Fairgrounds in October.

Fun Fact Friday!!!
Did you know there are actually similarities between horses and ducks??

Dietary Systems: Neither animal has a gallbladder.
Flight or Fight Response: As prey animals, both instinctively run or take flight at the first sign of sudden danger. They also share highly perceptive, monocular vision, allowing them to see in nearly all directions without moving their heads.
Vocal Communication: Both use distinct sounds to signal alarm, contentment, or to locate their young.
Social Connections: They are highly social, flock-oriented animals that thrive best when living in groups. Both can form strong bonds with their human handlers or with other companion animals.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY: Who makes SBYEC so special?
Andrea! Andrea has been an instructor at SBYEC for almost 2 years now. As a youth, she competed as hunter/jumper for six years and was a part of an IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) team for two years.
Andrea teaches at SBYEC because she enjoys being around the horses and kids. “I love watching the kids grow and learn more about horses and riding. Seeing them light up when they come for lessons makes me so happy.”
Andrea had some big life changes with the birth of her son. We have been so excited for her and celebrating this new chapter of her life. We are so happy to have her back from maternity leave!

Here's your Monday Mood Boost!

We heard about a Japanese study that showed that "viewing cute things improves subsequent performance in tasks that require behavioral carefulness..."

So, in an effort to support productivity, we're sharing videos of our animals (owned and wild) at the Silver Buckle. Enjoy!

FUN FACT FRIDAY!!!
Why do horses Roll???
Coat Maintenance & Shedding: The friction from the ground pulls loose fur out, making rolling especially common and important during the spring shedding season.
Bug & Sun Protection: Coating themselves in dirt or mud acts as a natural sunblock and creates a barrier that keeps biting flies and insects away.
Muscle Relief: Rolling works as a sort of chiropractic adjustment. It stretches tight back muscles, relieves stiffness after being ridden, and helps them "crack" their backs.
Drying & Scent Reset: Horses roll to dry off sweat or water. Additionally, after a bath, many horses will immediately roll in dirt to regain their familiar, natural smell.
Relaxation & Play: Rolling can be a sign of a happy, content, and relaxed horse. It often happens when they are turned out into a large pasture or after a good workout
