Sprite and I are down at the UKI West Coast Cup. The first day was a blast and the best part was this Speedstakes run!

Day 3 of the True Colors Classic did not disappoint! After having several incidents of sending Sprite off course with big arms, too many steps and disconnection, I was determined to not get the off course tunnel in this Biathlon Agility run. It worked! Sprite ran clean and took first place šŸ„‡ This was enough for another second place 🄈 podium! We went into Pentathlon Speedstakes Final seeded second to last and while I did keep Sprite on course, we ended up in fourth place and just off the podium. With only had one off course all day today though (in Snooker), I am super proud of our performance today and this weekend. šŸ˜

Bahahaha!!!! Blink and I managed to put up a score today in Speedstakes. Not a good score mind you, but we did all the obstacles the correct order (by the skin of our teeth). Because of this, Blink got his first podium šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸ„°šŸ„°šŸ„³šŸ„³šŸ¤©šŸ¤© What a good little span span. We’ve got a lot of things to do little buddy and I can’t wait. (Podium photo in the comments because Facebook is stoopid).

Sprite didn’t want to be out done by her little brother so she won her Speedstakes round! I was particularly proud of this run since I had to completely switch modes from ā€œrun in and show all the thingsā€ to ā€œsend and blind all the thingsā€ 🤣 We had E’s in both Masters Series and Biathlon but with only one bar down today, I’m very pleased with our overall performance. Looking forward to more great courses tomorrow!

Blink debuted today! He was SUCH a good boy 🄹 He has NEVER done agility outside on grass so I wasn’t sure what to expect. He had also not really done more than about 14 obstacles in a row so when I saw this course was 22 obstacles, I was double unsure how it would go. He was pretty perfect. Couldn’t have asked for much more on our first trip to the line šŸ˜

Sprite and I braved the possibility of daytime fireworks this weekend and headed to Corral Creek Dog Sport Center for the UKI ICE trial. We only managed to put together one clean run, but it sure was pretty! We were the first dog on the line for the International ICE Agility run and we laid it down!

My office for the morning! Very excited to be teaching an agility seminar for the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America. Sprite thinks carpet is just as good for rolling as turf and that selfies are still stoopid 🤣

Welp, once again, the results on paper have nothing to say about our performance. We were hands down head and shoulders better than last year. We E’d four out of five rounds, and yet, we were so close to being clean more than once. Last year, after WTT, in an attempt to make some data driven decisions about where to put my training focus, I recorded every error we made in each round. I did the same thing this year after round 4 and the list speaks for itself. It is SO much shorter. It made a huge difference to me to look at those two lists. It made me feel like it isn’t just trite or forced positivity to say that we have improved. I also especially appreciated those that pointed out the difference they have seen in my handling since last year.

After some reflection, I have realized that I think part of my disappointment after EOTT and 1-TDC was that part of me was worried that was as good of a performance as we could ever hope to give, and that I had somehow missed my chance. Now, I feel like I am finally grasping the fact that this is where we are. We can consistently perform at this level. We have leveled up one more notch and there are still just a few more to go. So we will keep chipping away.

My mental game during events has gotten much better, particularly on course. It was funny to have a few people comment about how ā€œfierceā€ I am out on course. The truth is, that is my way of staying focused and in the moment. To think of nothing else besides, connect, cue, see commitment, move, repeat. Any lower level of intensity and my mind wanders.

I still struggle to have the positive 10,000 foot view that some of my peers have. I admire them for their strength and resolve. Perhaps, I will be there someday too. We all have our own journeys šŸ™‚ Today I am happy to be walking away with more confidence in myself than I went in with.
