Thank you to for bringing me this amazing idea for an awesome display. The story behind this deer is incredible and one that is relatable to many hunters alike. Mr. Rentz son took his first shot on this fine buck but hit him a little too high. He wasn’t able to harvest him but the following year when Mr. Buck returned with a battle scar, he got his chance and reclaimed his buck. An incredible reminder about the resilience that hunters and the hunted both embody. What an awesome trophy to have!! Thank you again for trusting me with such a special project.

Few feather art frames of lately. I’ve been busy, busy and have a lot of mounts and frames to picture and post.

Few things drying in the shop. I want to wish everyone a great memorial weekend! We are celebrating two birthdays and honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. God bless and do not call me until Tuesday! Much love 😂

Mr. Spence dropped off his Osceola to me making it my first turkey intake for the season. Over the course of this season he has traveled and completed his first Grand Slam. He then finished the season out with my last turkey intake of the season with his second eastern tagging him out in Georgia. He took his Merriam out of Colorado and Rio out of Oklahoma. Congratulations on this successful season and I’m excited to process my first grand slam +1 with a total of 5 turkeys ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’m not yet full so if you have one in the freezer give me a call for plaques or feather art!

I was asked this past weekend how to judge a Jake. I did my best to explain this but here is an excellent picture showing the short beard and center feathers standing taller.

REMINDER FOR SC TURKEY HUNTERS: THE HARVEST OF JAKES IS UNLAWFUL.

A “jake” is a juvenile male turkey and defined in statute (SC Code of Laws 50-11-500) as a male wild turkey with BOTH a beard less than six inches (< 6”) AND a tail fan that is not fully developed with the central tail feathers being longer than the rest.

This prohibition applies to all hunters (including youth) and all lands (private and public).

NOTE: A small number of adult gobblers have beards shorter than 6” due to a melanin deficiency, commonly called “beard rot”. In these cases the adult bird would have a FULL TAIL FAN and would therefore be LEGAL for harvest since it would not meet the legal definition of a jake.

How to harvest “turkey stones”. I do this free for my clients but it’s super easy to do in general.

Happy Turkey Day!! My list for frames have started and this year I get to add my name to it 🦃
