It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved office cat Mr. Bear. Mr. Bear was diagnosed with breast cancer about three months ago. It only occurs in male cats about 2% of the time. We thought the tumor could be removed and life would go on as usual but our veterinarian said that once a lump is found on the mammary glands it almost always has metastasized to other parts of the body. We opted to provide comfort care and pain management until such a time he seemed in pain or had loss of appetite. That time came last Sunday. It was such an incredibly hard decision to make as all of you know but it was the right one for him.
Mr. Bear was truly a gem. He was so gentle, loving and sweet. Even though he had FIV(Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) he was very healthy until his final diagnosis. He lived a great life and had many titles he acquired at our office. He was a natural at being a paper weight. His first gig was being a greeter but later turned that task over to his brother Luca. He loved being out in the catio to soke up some rays of sun and watch the wild birds. The boy also loved his groceries. We will forever miss his monotone cry he made before each meal announcing we were late at providing chow and all the cuddle time he graciously gave us throughout his 4 1/2 years with us.
We know his brother Luca misses him terribly as well. They were introduced as adults to each other and we weren't sure how the arrangement would work. Patty built an elaborate cage that we could slowly introduce them to each other. He was in the cage for 20 minutes. He wanted out and the connection was immediate. They loved each other so much. They wrestled, ate, napped and explored together.
We are forever grateful for the absolute joy he brought into our lives. Kitty heaven gained a great one.
