Our goal for the Brownstown Animal Shelter is to educate residents on the local laws and ordinances and to promote responsible pet ownership by providing professional and friendly service to the community. We are the voice for all animals of neglect and cruelty. Services:
Humane trapping of wildlife, Pet Adoptions, Owner Animal Surrenders, Complaints, Dog-Bite Reporting. Pet Adoptions:
Adoptions
can be made during the hours listed above. Outside of these hours you can call the shelter to schedule an appointment time between those hours. Licensing:
Licenses for Township residents can be purchased at the township treasury office between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Prices are as follows:
- $10 for dogs between January 1 and April 30
- $20 for dogs after April 30
- $10 for cats between January 1 and April 30
- $20 for cats after April 30
- Seniors receive first license free with any additional at half price
Fees:
- Give-up Fee (cats): $40 (Dogs): $60
- Adoption fee (cats & dogs):
*For spayed/neutered CATS: $60
*For spayed/neutered DOGS: $80
Facts:
- Give-ups and strays must be taken to the shelter where the animal was found. Brownstown reserves the right to deny animals from other cities as it would be in violation of state laws.
- License from other cities are non-transferable to the township. All dogs and cats must be registered with the township.
- 95% of lost pets found without an ID tag DO NOT get returned to their owners. 95% of lost pets found with an ID tag are rescued and returned to their homes.
- Feral cats seen with a clipped ear have already been fixed. Donations:
- Donations to the shelter are welcomed and encouraged. If we are not available at the shelter please leave donation of items outside of the door. Please do not leave cash or checks outside. Receipts are available to those who do donate. Please make checks out to Brownstown Animal Shelter
-Needed Items: Wet canned cat food, dog and cat treats, towels and wash clothes, blankets during cold periods, Good homes for each animal.
