TYPHUS CASES SURGE IN CALIFORNIA AND TEXAS

Los Angeles County hit a record 220 flea-borne typhus cases in 2025, with nearly 90% requiring hospitalization.

Texas saw a 12-fold increase over recent decades, spreading from South Texas into Bexar, Travis, Harris, Dallas, and Tarrant counties.

The 2026 CAPC forecast tells a different story depending on where you practice.

In Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia — Lyme risk is expanding faster than almost anywhere else in the country. In the Mountain West — Colorado, Wyoming, Montana — heartworm is showing up in places most vets wouldn't expect. In the Southeast and Southwest — ehrlichiosis risk remains high, and it's spreading north.
