Midwest

Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) is committed to serving both pet and parent, finding homes for animals that were once lost, left behind and forgotten, while bringing harmony and enhancing education in our community. Midwest Animal Rescue & Services™ (MARS) is a dedicated and passionate group who rescues dogs and cats that are at risk and homeless through no fault of their own. Once in our care, these companion animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Special attention is provided for those animals that need additional time and medical care before going to a new home. MARS is committed to helping pets in need whenever possible, including all breeds and ages. MARS does not have a shelter facility for boarding. We are a foster-based rescue group that runs on the support and aid of dedicated volunteers and supporters. Our fostered pets live in homes, as family members, receiving all of the love and care they would in an adoptive home, until they are adopted. The adopters gain greater insight into the pets’ behavior and personality versus interacting with an animal who has been living in a kennel and the pet is more prepared for a loving home life. This helps produce the best match possible for the new families, resulting in a 98% success rate! Let us help you find the perfect match! MARS is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Toast has a full government name now. 😆

Sylvia Willow Toast is doing wonderfully in her forever home — although her family says she’ll always be Toast. 💙

She’s sweet, growing like crazy, helping with important laptop work, and apparently VERY comfortable with her new life.

These are the updates we love getting. Watching the tiny babies who came through MARS grow up loved and completely at home is pretty special.

Keep growing, Toast. We love seeing you so happy. 🥹

Thursday afternoon update: He has a foster home!! Thank you Deborah, and everyone who offered and shared!! We can't do this without you 🤝💙🐾

_________

It is State Fair time and we know everyone is busy with back to school too, but we are hoping our community can help us help this boy!

Meet Chase!
He is 9 yrs old, had an owner who didn't come get him from impound. The impound was flooded so he was sent to boarding. We stepped in and brought him to MARS last Friday.....His temp foster could only keep until today! So at 2pm he is homeless.....

He is an old man who has not had an easy life and needs some time to really trust people. He is good with dogs, but no Kitties. He is friendly and will want attention but will not be quick to do things you ask him to do until he fully trusts you.

PLEASE help us! Share, better yet be that person to help him see his senior years will be much better than his old life!!!

This is the part we hope for. ❤️

Remember the Minnesota puppy litter?

You Betcha. Anywho. For Pete’s Sake. 😂

Well, For Pete’s Sake is Bernie now — and he is living a pretty darn good life.

He’s already been to the lakes, taken a road trip, gone on lots of walks, spent plenty of time running around his yard, and has three sister cats teaching him the ropes at home.

Basically… puppyhood is going exactly how we hoped it would. 🥹

When puppies leave MARS, this is what we want for them. To grow up safe, loved, included in the adventures, and making happy memories with their family.
Bernie, you sure landed yourself a good one. ❤️

Thank you to his family for sending us this update and letting us share a little piece of his happy-ever-after!

Tide has places to go, things to chew and laps to nap in. 😂

This sweet brindle girl is everything we love about puppies: curious, busy, goofy and ridiculously snuggly.

Her foster says Tide is already crate trained, working on potty training and learning commands like sit and leave it. She does well with kids and other dogs, loves exploring outside and — when all that puppy business finally wears her out — will happily curl up in your lap for a nap. ❤️

She’s still learning some puppy manners around food, toys and using her mouth, so she’s looking for a family ready to keep helping her learn.

Tide is ready to grow up with a family of her own.

A bag of food can be the difference between “I wish I could foster” and “I can.”

Every time we put out a call for food, litter, crates, leashes or other foster supplies — and you answer it — you’re helping break down one of the barriers to fostering.

Because not everyone who wants to foster can afford all the supplies that come with it.

Some people have the room in their home.

They have the love.
They have the time.
They WANT to help.

Their budget just doesn’t have room for one more mouth to feed.

Should that be what keeps a pet from having a foster home?

We don’t think so.

When the MARS Community keeps our supply shelves stocked, we can tell more people, “We’ve got the supplies. You just bring the love.”

And that means more foster homes.
More pets we can say yes to.
More lives saved.

Thank you, MARS Community, for answering the call again and again. ❤️

Who is MARS?

We connect people.
We connect pets.
And we help keep them together.

We’re foster homes when a pet needs somewhere safe to land.

We’re veterinary care when they need help.

We’re training when things get hard.

We’re adoption. Support. Second chances.

We’re conversations, resources and people helping people.

Because at MARS, both ends of the leash matter.

Sometimes saving a life means saying yes to a pet.

Sometimes it means helping the person holding the leash.

Usually, it takes a whole community.

That’s MARS.

Connecting people. Connecting pets.
Where All Roads Lead Home.

We received an emergency message from one of our longtime rescue partners asking for help. Their area had experienced severe flooding, leaving many animals displaced and in desperate need of safety.

Bonnie and Chase were among those already waiting in the shelter. They have been waiting patiently in boarding for a ride north, they will finally be arriving TODAY!

Now, they just need somewhere safe and loving to land. Can you open your home to Bonnie or Chase as a foster? Fostering gives these dogs a soft place to rest, decompress, and feel loved while they wait for their forever homes.

One careful step. Then another. 💙

This was Ollie just after surgery.

Slow. Sore. But moving forward.

When we first shared Ollie’s story, the fundraiser moved slowly. But this week, we shared what came after the surgery — and you showed up.

$895 has now been raised toward his $1,700 medical care goal. We’re officially more than halfway there.

Ollie is healing. His personality is coming back. He celebrated his 7th birthday. And according to his mom, he’s already dreaming about the day he can get back to chasing squirrels in the yard. 😆

MARS said yes to the care Ollie needed before we knew whether his fundraiser would cover it.

Can we help carry the rest?
