Dr. Michelle captured this video this week and, while bad news for the patient, it’s a really great reminder for everyone to keep your heartworm prevention up to date. A little tricky to find for an untrained eye but that little wiggle is the larval form of dirofilaria immitis, commonly known as the “Heartworm”. That little bu**er will grow up to a foot long as it sets up shop in the heart of whatever poor dog it’s living in. Then it’ll find a friend and start “pumping out” more heartworms to be sucked up by the next mosquito so it can be spread to other dogs (and yes, cats too).
There are a number of really great preventative options out there. Give us a call or stop in and we’d love to walk you through all those options and help you find what’s best for your unique patient!
