Kelso and Houdini are residents at The Ferndale Cat Shelter who have found incredible comfort in each other's company and are now inseparable. So to celebrate their bond, the Ferndale Cat Shelter is throwing them a wedding! Next Saturday, June 21st, enjoy food, live music, and tons of cat people while raising money for these handsome boys and all of their friends! Our pets are integral parts of our families, but that can make it so much harder when we have to face the sad truth: that our animals don't live as long as we'd like them to.

Mike joined Priya Mann and Jamie Edmonds on WDIV Local 4 / ClickOnDetroit for World Pet Memorial Day to discuss how important grieving the loss of our 4 legged friends is, and share some incredible resources to help you through that journey. Especially if your furbaby has human siblings, books by local DVM Dr. Corey Gut like "Being Brave For Bailey" and "Staying Strong For Smokey" are great ways to help your kiddos understand whats happening to their best freind, and a limited number of these books are available for free at our Beverly Hills location for families who may need them.

Books aren't only helpful to assist kids in grieving; they can be helpful for adults as well. Tails From Beyond The Paw Print by Dr. Mickey Golden Moore is a great tool to prepare yourself to say goodbye, and the accompanying Facebook support group Beyond The Paw Print (https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1Z7pgZdTCA/) can help you find a community of others that have recently been through this heartbreak, or are currently going through it.

And for anyone who wants their pet's memory to live on, commissioning a custom portrait of your pet, like the ones shown by local artist T Ann Marie (tannmarieart.com), can help keep your pet's spirit alive in your home. Our hearts go out to anyone dealing with the inexplicable tragedy of losing their pet companions.
