Happy Memorial Day!

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We also want to recognize all of our Military Working Dogs who have served alongside them with loyalty, courage, and devotion.

As you spend time with family and friends today, we hope you’ll also take a quiet moment to reflect on the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy every day. ❤️

It's been a while since I have posted a "Meet Dr. Cate," so I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to those who haven't met me yet.

I am a veterinarian based in Brighton, Michigan. After graduating from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, I spent 7 years practicing as a general veterinarian. During this time, I felt a strong calling to support my clients through one of the most challenging yet profound experiences — the loss of their beloved pets. These moments of connection inspired me to devote my practice to peaceful end-of-life care in 2021.

I believe that one of the most significant time in our pets' lives are their final moments with us. I understand the difficulty of maintaining their comfort and reducing their stress during this time, which can be more challenging in a clinic environment. Having experienced the heartbreaking loss of pets myself, I am familiar with the fear and stress this period can bring. These personal experiences led me to establish Peaceful Promise, my mobile pet euthanasia service, so that I can provide support to my patients and their families in the comfort of their own homes.

Born in South Africa, I moved to the US as a teenager. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my family, practicing yoga, hiking, exploring small towns, and actively participating in my local community. I share my home with my husband, our two young children, and our very spirited cat named Margaret Catwood.

I am an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, and the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. I hold the certification of Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (CPEV) and have completed advanced continuing education through the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy. Additionally, I am certified in Low Stress Handling for both cats and dogs.

I am honored to do what I do for my patients, and am here to support your pets and family as best I can during this heartbreaking time.

I’m delighted to share that our family has grown!

Connor made his debut on October 21st, arriving a few weeks early at 36 weeks. We’re home now and both doing well. His big sister is completely smitten with her baby brother!

I’ll be taking a bit of time to settle in with our newest addition, and I so appreciate your support and understanding during this special season.

There’s no timeline for opening your heart to a new pet after loss. Grief is personal, and healing happens at its own pace. Some people may find comfort in welcoming a new pet into their home quickly, while others need more time to honor the love they’ve lost. Whenever it happens, it’s not about replacing — it’s about finding room in your heart for love again.

September 5th is International Day of Charity, a time to honor the power of giving and the legacy of Mother Teresa’s compassion. This day reminds us that small acts of kindness can transform lives and strengthen our communities.

If you feel moved, I invite you to support the Brynn Robinson Memorial Fund, which helps local families afford gentle, in-home end-of-life care for their beloved pets. Every dollar donated goes directly to support these families in saying goodbye to their pet at home.

Give today and help us bring comfort to families when they need it most: https://www.peacefulpromisemi.com/client-resources/memorial-fund to make a donation.

Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we pause to honor and remember the pets who have left pawprints on our hearts. August 28th is a time to reflect on the special memories we’ve shared with our animal companions and to celebrate the love, laughter, and comfort they brought into our lives. It’s also a gentle reminder of the unbreakable bond between pets and their families, and a day to hold space for both grief and healing as we cherish their lasting impact.

"Take Your Cat to the Vet Day" is observed on August 22nd each year. This day highlights the importance of regular veterinary check-ups for cats, which are essential for their health and well-being. Routine visits can help detect potential health issues early, ensure vaccinations are up to date, and provide opportunities for professional advice on nutrition, behavior, and overall care. The day serves as a reminder for cat families to prioritize their pets' health and establish routine veterinary care.

Time may soften their step, but it only deepens the love and bond we share with our pets.
