Celebrating 13 Years with Clyde

Today marks a very special anniversary: 13 years ago, I brought home Clyde, my first service dog, as a puppy. From that moment, my life changed in ways I could never have imagined.

Over the years, Clyde and I have traveled the country, attended college, and taught hundreds of other service dogs. He has been my heart, soul, and eyes, guiding me through every step of our journey together. I wouldn't be where I am today without him.

Now retired, Clyde enjoys his well-deserved rest, comfortably sleeping on the couch. Yet, he still loves getting out occasionally, visiting the places and people that mean the most to him.

Words can't truly capture the impact Clyde has had on my life. I love my old man more than I can express. Here's to you, Clyde, for being my steadfast companion and the incredible bond we share.

I wanted to share an update about Clyde, my cherished retired service dog of 13 years. Today, we received concerning news from the lab results indicating a cancerous tumor on his side. We are closely monitoring its progression and have a follow-up appointment with the surgeon scheduled for next month. Given Clyde's age, I am hopeful to explore options that do not involve surgery, but we will trust the surgeon's expertise in making the best decision for Clyde's well-being. I will keep everyone informed as we gather more information.

Reflecting on Clyde's remarkable journey, he began his training program at just 3 months old and has since contributed immensely. He is assisted in training over 100 new service dogs, provided thousands of hours of therapy dog work, traversed the country multiple times, served as an ambassador for service dogs at numerous public events, and been my faithful guide for a decade, helping me navigate through my time at UMSL. Clyde's impact has been immeasurable, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
