🚨 PET OWNER PSA: New World Screwworm Has Been Confirmed in the U.S. 🚨

As many of you have probably seen in the news, New World screwworm has recently been confirmed in parts of Texas. While the overall risk remains low in most of the country, awareness is important—especially for pet owners who travel or spend time outdoors. (CDC)

Screwworm flies lay their eggs in open wounds, and the larvae feed on living tissue, making this a serious medical emergency for animals if left untreated. (CDC)

🐾 Protect your pets by:
• Checking any cuts, scrapes, or surgical incisions every day.
• Keeping wounds clean and covered whenever possible.
• Watching for a wound that suddenly worsens, has a foul odor, unusual drainage, or excessive licking.
• Contacting your veterinarian immediately if you notice anything unusual or see larvae (maggots).

As someone who transports pets, their health and safety are always my top priority. A quick daily wound check can make all the difference.
