2 weeks old already, opened their eyes today! And started to walk ❤️‍🔥🥴. Cleaning out the whelping corner. Probably the last time I get the use of a bin to hold them while cleaning. Considering they are also clumbing out of even the pool! Just more and more adorable by the day 🥰

A fun example of a training technique called "capturing". Which is when you simply encourage a behavior that is being offered, mark and reward. I did not put a command word to this trick yet as I was attempting to lure a "spin" when this behavior was offered (and accepted) so Charlie only had the hand movements as clues to what I was asking. I would like to begin adding in a command word next session, comment below what command word you would use to label this fun trick 🐕.

Felix (tricolor male) and Flower (black female) are Lab/Collie (and one of the vet techs thinks *maybe* Chow) mix puppies who were born on 9-6-22. We're looking for two separate foster homes for these two to help build confidence, nip Flower's food aggression in the bud, and to help potty train them. We need help socializing them. ❄️❄️Puppies first snow! ❄️❄️

First exposure to snow is one of the most fun things to expose a puppy to, but it is just one of the many aspects of socializing a puppy. A very important part of raising a puppy is the Socialization period. Socialization isn't just about setting up playdates with other pups, it's about exposing a young pup (most criticaly 3-12 weeks of age) to as many new sights, sounds, textures, and environments as possible and letting them explore new things. Although it's not advisable to be taking a puppy places such as a dog park before they have received all their puppy vaccines there's still so many things a pup can be exposed to at home. I started volunteering to train dogs at the Humane Society of Richland/Wilkin Counties tonight. This is Stella, she needs help with issues with jumping on people. Being in a shelter is tough on high energy dogs like Stella. The typical "don't pet them till all 4 paws are on the ground" is not effective for this pent-up pup. Today was mostly an evaluation but we worked on a tune-up drill with leash walking to gain respect through loving leadership, then some basic skills(sit/down/stay), a paws up (on a table)/off command to transfer to the jumping on people later, as well as spent some time learning to "settle" for increasing periods of time. Video is of my daughter, who will also be volunteering at the local shelter, working Stella thru sit and down and even capturing an extra trick command as she puts Stella through some reps.
