We are heartbroken and frustrated at this stupid kennel cough that is plaguing our wonderful town. It is widespread all the way to Texas. We are doing everything we can here to keep it from spreading but there is a chance your dog could get it. It seems pretty mild though and I haven't heard of any serious cases.
I just want to keep everybody informed.
Please don't be mad at the dog kennels we are all in this together and are doing our best. Thank you.
Here's a update from Taney County animal control as of July 28th.
Taney County Animal Control is currently experiencing an upper respiratory outbreak in our dog areas. This is not a covid related respiratory virus and we have been advised by our veterinarian that the primary causative agent of late in many boarding facilities in SW MO is Mycoplasma sp and not Kennel Cough.
We are currently medicating multiple dogs and have put protocols in place to mitigate the spread and after consulting with our primary care veterinarian as well as 3 other Veterinarians and the Taney County Commission, we have made the decision to close the shelter to the public for the next 7-10 days.
Owner redemptions will be allowed to leave the facility
Field Services are being placed on emergency status only and all jurisdictions have been informed of this decision.
We have not made this decision lightly and the health of the animals here at the shelter is our most important consideration.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your patience while we navigate the next week.
If you notice any signs of your dog presenting with a dry hacking cough which at times results in gagging and the production of white foam or phlegm, sneezing, nasal discharge, lethargy or a loss of appetite please call your veterinarian.
If you have any questions please call the shelter at 417-332-0172
