The Military Macaws (Ara militaris) received their name when they were first imported into Europe by military personnel; also some suggest that this species was named for the overall “army or olive green” color of its plumage. At first glance, these parrots may not be as striking as some of their cousins, but these parrots are beautiful nonetheless. They are fun-loving and sociable, and many of those kept as pets have distinguished themselves as excellent talkers.

The colorful Coral Beauty Centropyge bispinosa is a very popular dwarf angelfish. Reaching only 4″ (10 cm) in size, it’s a “fun-size” color version of a large angelfish species, like the Bluegirdled Angelfish, but without the stringent care requirements. Besides being small and attractive, it is hardy, reasonably priced and readily available. In fact, this is the most commonly purchased dwarf angel in the marine aquarium hobby, second only to theFlame Angelfish. It is also called the Twospine Angelfish and Dusky Angelfish.

This exhibit features creatures of land and sea that you wouldn\’t want to meet (except behind glass).
Based in ancient Mayan ruins, you can experience many dangerous animals, including one of the Midwest\’s largest collection of venomous snakes; and octopi, spiders, dangerous fish, and even a saltwater crocodile.

Featured in our custom enclosure are our very own pack of wolf puppies. These puppies were raised and bottle fed since they were six weeks old. Now over three feet tall, these British Colombian wolves are a sight to see.
