Lovely RUDY is looking for his new home! He's a husky mix who is a friendly guy. He does have a missing back paw - he has most of his leg but it just...ends. It doesn't stop him from playing in the snow and exploring our fenced in dog run.

💔 Three Years Waiting… Meet River 💔

River didn’t choose the shelter life — it chose her.

About three years ago, River was found roaming on a local street here in West Haven, later she was brought to our Police Department. Since then, the shelter has been the only home she’s known. Day after day, River waits.

Our staff have worked patiently with River over the years to help bring her out of her shell. She has made so much progress, but River is the kind of dog who takes time to warm up to people. Sadly, we believe that’s why she keeps getting overlooked. Many are drawn to the small dogs or the dogs who run right up for attention, but River needs time to get to know you before giving you all her love! She is waiting for someone willing to give her a little patience.

River is about 4 years old, and heartbreakingly, most of her life has been spent in a kennel environment. She deserves to know what it feels like to have a real home-a soft bed, a calm space, and a person who will let her trust at her own pace.

Behind those cautious eyes is a dog who just needs someone to believe in her.

River may not be the first dog to greet you, but she could be the most rewarding one you’ll ever love. All she needs is someone willing to give her the chance, she’s been waiting three years for.

Her forever family has to be out there somewhere, we know they are. River will continue to wait patiently.

River doesn’t seem to mind other pups but as always, we require a meet and greet. We are unsure how she is with cats.
