With all the KitKat craze going around, we just want to remind pet parents:
Not every “sweet treat” is safe for your furry friends!

🚫 Chocolate = NOPE for pets
✅ Belly rubs = ALWAYS YES
✅ Treats approved by your vet = even better

🍫Why is Chocolate Toxic to Dogs?

Chocolate contains chemicals called theobromine, and caffeine. Theobromine is the main toxic ingredient in chocolate, but it is similar to caffeine with effects that medically causes smooth muscle to relax, dilate blood vessels, stimulate the heart, and cause fluid loss from the body. These effects are more dangerous to dogs because they cannot metabolize those chemicals as well as we can, which causes dogs to be more sensitive to them.

🍫What Should You Do if your pet ingests chocolate?
1) Check to make sure your pet is safe, breathing normally and acting normal.
2) Collect a sample of the material, packaging, or container. Save this information, you will need it.
3) DO NOT give any home remedies or induce vomiting without talking to your veterinarian, ER, Pet Poison Hotline, or Animal Poison Control Center.
