Huckleberry's Snack Shack I wanted to honor my perfect pit bull, Huckleberry, in the best way.

Huckleberry’s Snack Shack will temporarily feed local pets, allowing families to increase their ability to care for pets with the goal of keeping them out of shelters and with their families. He was an ambassador for the breed, exploding with an abundance of love, full of contagious playful energy that lived each moment fully.

This morning was a big delivery day for Huckleberry's Snack Shack.

Mom and Dad picked up and delivered 2.5 pallets of pet food from Rescue Pack for us. This load included wet and dry cat food and an avalanche of dog treats.

We had an awesome crew ready to help. Erin, her husband and son, along with Cassie and her son, showed up and had everything unloaded in under 30 minutes. I was inside trying to organize as it came through the door, but they were moving so fast I could barely keep up.

Dad handled all the driving and even jumped in for some of the lighter lifting. He's back with us after his recent health scare and told the girls he's feeling great. They were excited to see him looking so good, and I think having him back in the middle of things made everyone smile a little extra today. 😁

Thank you, Rescue Pack, for helping us keep pets fed, and thank you to The Home Depot for providing the box truck that helps make these larger pick-ups possible.

Razzle Dazzle Dayz starts TODAY! 🎉

Our friends at Razzle Dazzle Doggie Bow-tique are celebrating 21 years, and they've packed the weekend with fun, great deals, and plenty of reasons to stop by.

If your pets love treats, toys, or good food, you're going to want to check out the specials they have going on all weekend. Trust me, there will be plenty of tail wags and happy purrs. 🐾

📚 Pet food representatives will be on-site from 10 am - 2 pm to answer questions and talk about pet nutrition, better-quality foods, and ways to support your pet's overall health. If you've ever wondered about ingredients, feeding options, or holistic approaches to your pet's wellness, this is a great opportunity to learn from the experts.
🌭 We'll be hanging out and grilling from 11 am - 1 pm. As always, Huckleberry's Snack Shack will gladly accept monetary donations or pet food donations to help local pets and families in need.
🎪 From 11 am - 1 pm, try your luck at the Fun Fair Games for a chance to win some pretty awesome prizes for you and your adorable pets.

Throwback Thursday — Summertime Chi

This photo takes me right back to one of our many trips into the city with Huckleberry.

Because of his heart condition, Dr. Luethy, Huckleberry's cardiologist, would often hook him up to a heart monitor to make sure the combination of medications was doing its job. After the monitor was in place, he'd always tell us the same thing:

"Now go have your best day."

And that's exactly what we did.

We’d spend the day visiting friends and exploring Chicago. Looking back, those days weren’t really about monitoring a heart. I think Dr. Luethy knew I needed those moments just as much as Huckleberry did, maybe even more. Gently giving us permission to set the worry aside and turn a hard season into something we could hold onto. Something we got to share together.

Huckleberry was a pretty sick dog, but you would have never known it. He never let his diagnosis define him. He was too busy making friends, soaking up attention, and reminding everyone he met that pit bulls aren't scary. Huckleberry spent his life changing minds, and hearts, one person at a time.

Sometimes, when I look back on photos like this, I wonder if dogs understand something that we don't. They don't worry about tomorrow. They don't dwell on yesterday. They simply live in the moment.

Huckleberry may not have been here nearly long enough, but he packed more love, happiness, and purpose into his years than many dogs ever could. He left behind a legacy of compassion, advocacy, and a whole lot of people who learned that pit bulls deserve to be judged by their hearts, not by stereotypes. 💚

If you've turned on the news or opened social media, you've probably seen plenty of coverage about the potential for severe weather. Sometimes the forecasts and headlines can make things feel a little overwhelming.

The reality is that the best thing we can do is simply be prepared. Have a plan for your family, your pets, and know where you'll go if conditions become unsafe. Hopefully, we'll end up with nothing more than a typical summer thunderstorm.

We're thinking about our friends and family south of us, especially near Bloomington and throughout Missouri, who may see stronger weather than we do.

Weather is one of those things we can't control, but being prepared is something we can control. Make sure your pets have their collars on, keep carriers and leashes accessible, charge your phones, and stay aware of changing conditions.

If severe weather does develop in your area, check with your local police department, fire department, churches, or community organizations for information about safe places to shelter.

We're always grateful for the support we get from the guys at Bradley Quick L**e and All Automotive. They are so good at checking in on me (us) and when needed, if they're available, they don't mind doing the heavy lifting.

I was out running errands before work this morning, so I dropped off some donuts and a variety of energy drinks before they opened. Hopefully it was a delicious little surprise waiting for them when they got to work. 🍩⚡

And since I was there, I couldn't leave out our new upstairs neighbor. Dennis at MoneyVibez Barbershop got a giant cinnamon roll waiting for him, too. 😄

One of the best things about being part of a community is meeting people who genuinely want to give back.

We recently welcomed a new neighbor upstairs from Huckleberry's Snack Shack, MoneyVibez Barbershop, owned by Dennis. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to stop by and check out his new space. It's clean, professional, and coming together nicely.

While I was there, we spent a few minutes talking about the community outreach work we do through Huckleberry's Snack Shack. Without hesitation, Dennis said, "Whatever you do, keep me in mind if you ever need donated haircuts for the community."

I absolutely love that. It's always exciting to meet local business owners who are looking for ways to make a difference, and we'll definitely find an opportunity to work together in the future.

If you're local and looking for a barber, give Dennis a try. He's located upstairs in our building, so if you book an appointment, just be prepared to make your way up the stairs. And with Father's Day right around the corner, be sure to check out his holiday haircut specials.

Hope everyone is doing okay after last night's storms.

After everything our community experienced in March, severe weather feels a lot different these days. Even for those of us who weren't directly impacted, it's impossible not to think about the families who lost homes. I know many people were on edge as the warnings started rolling in.

Manteno got off pretty easy. As the storms moved in, I had Erin to the south keeping an eye on the weather radio and Dad to the north sending updates. Then there were texts coming in from friends all over, Manhattan, Beecher, Kankakee, everyone checking in and making sure we were all good.

I haven't had a chance yet to see what kind of damage was reported in Indiana or around Streator, but I'm hoping everyone there is safe and that damage was minimal. If those communities end up needing support, please let us know. We know how much a helping hand can mean after a disaster, and we'll do what we can to help.

And thank you to everyone who checked in on me last night.

Now, if Mother Nature could give us a few weeks of boring weather, that would be great. 🌤️
