We’ve been getting A LOT done over here.
Yesterday, Hillary and Sherri came over to help me pack snack bags, and we knocked out 150 bags filled with some of the best snacks.
Dad came over today to help me organize and contain everything for tomorrow. After dinner, I packed another 48 bagged lunches with pulled pork sandwiches.
Tomorrow, it’s Erin and me from the Huckleberry’s Snack Shack crew heading to Gary. She’s bringing her truck so we can haul the toys, snack bags, lunches, and all the fuel for our volunteers; water, Gatorade, pop, cookies, donuts, jerky, sandwiches… basically enough food to keep everyone going. 😂
There’s something about the night before an outreach that I really love. The house is full of bags and boxes, my kitchen is a mess, and there are piles of stuff all over the garage that somehow need to make it into Erin’s truck tomorrow morning. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the kind of work I’m really grateful to get to do.
I really do have the best people around me. People who show up, roll up their sleeves, and help get s**t done. And taking care of people has always been what I do best. Give me a community that needs a little extra help, and I’m going to figure out how we can show up for them.
I love doing anything with Rescue Pack. They are my kind of people. And I’m really excited to finally meet the people behind Silverstray Social and work alongside them.
I’ve had the opportunity to help communities all over Chicago and the suburbs, the West Side, South Side, East Side, and everywhere in between. Something tells me the residents of Gary are going to become some of my favorites.
Tomorrow is going to be a good day.
