Ridge Run Dog Park

Ridge Run Dog Park Come enjoy Boyne City's latest addition! Meet dozens and dozens of new four legged friends and their wonderful owners! between Court, Addis & Escape Streets.

MISSION STATEMENT:
To establish an off-leash dog park where dogs and their (owners/friends) have a safe, well-maintained area for recreation and socialization. To promote responsible canine care to Boyne area citizens and visitors who will uphold the park’s rules. To respond to the needs of a significant portion of the Boyne area population for a vibrant, play location for pets. The Boyne City Dog

Park is viewed as a canine complement to the town’s existing public parks. Location: The proposed Dog Park location is at the north end of town, near our DPW North Boyne yard, proposed to utilize the north and south side of Ridge St. This location is currently unused and undeveloped. The parcels are fairly level, generous in size, minimal neighboring home owners, near City utilities for water and future sewer connections with some mature trees already on the lots for shade. There are additional attributes that make this location desirable for this use. Volunteers: The City of Boyne City, through its Parks & Recreation Commission established a volunteer Dog Park committee who is willing to do much of the research and make recommendations to the Parks & Rec. Commission and the City Commission for consideration and implementation. They will also be responsible for fund-raising efforts to finance the proposed park and its elements. The committee which consists of community members, a representative of the Charlevoix County Humane Society, and members of the Leadership Charlevoix County program have already been hard at work narrowing down the location, drafting concept renderings, researching materials, cost estimates and will begin their capital funds campaign. If you are interested in getting involved or have questions, please contact Boyne City Hall 231.582.6597. http://www.cityofboynecity.com/dog-park-project-248/

The Charlevoix Area Humane Society, has since our inception in 1974, relied on volunteers to help support our mission.
Volunteers are critical in our continued success in serving the animals and the people who care about them.
We are currently in need of volunteers on Saturday afternoon 12:00-4:00pm for office assistance. Answering the phones and assisting staff in directing visitors to resources. We will train you in the basics of what’s needed, and you will have the confidence of knowing staff is on site to help if there are any challenges.
If you are interested in one Saturday a month up to all of them 😊 please call Carla at the Shelter 231-582-6774

Meet our Pet of the Week, King, a handsome and energetic guy ready to find his furever home! King came to us as a transfer from another shelter. He really loves to play, so a big yard would be perfect for him. King does well with cats but is a bit cautious around other dogs. He’d thrive in a home with older kids (12+), who can match his energy. If King sounds like the perfect fit, fill out an adoption application online or at the shelter today!

Another great agility season in the books! Had some new students and returning ones. All the teams learned new skills and had lots of fun too! For the last class several students dressed up for Halloween or went Trick or Treating.

With winter around the corner, the agility equipment is stored and the field closed down until the Spring.

Thank you to everyone, instructors and students alike for keeping the fun and training going. Tell your friends, neighbors and family to sign up for classes in 2025.

Friends, we need some help. Meet Butter 🧈

Last Sunday, we received a desperate plea from our friends at Detroit Animal Care and Control about a special German Shepherd named Butter. We didn't have the space or plans to intake a dog that day. But Butter lived his whole life in a house, with his person. He had a doggie sibling and loves kids. He's even housebroken! It wasn't Butter's fault he was surrendered, and he didn't understand why his new room had cinderblock walls and a hard floor.

We recognized that we could provide a better environment and life for this pooch, and despite having to modify plans and make space, we accepted Butter with open arms. Our LTBHS values remind us that we are guided by integrity and challenge ourselves to always do the right thing.

In the last week, Butter has lost his family, his home, and everything he's known. He has also tested positive for Heartworm Disease. But despite all of the challenges he's recently faced, he smiles! Butter is SO happy to be safe in Northern Michigan and we are elated we could help him. Now, we need you!

❤️ FOSTER Butter to help get him through his Heartworm treatment! Fostering is free, we make it easy, and you will be the reason for the big old smile on his face. Email [email protected] if you have space for Butter!
