Dog Training by Hazel is back! Welcome :)
•
If you didn’t know, I was a dog trainer in Charlotte, NC and loved working with so many amazing pups and owners. But in 2021 I made the decision to move back to my home state of Michigan.
•
I now service Northern Michigan and surrounding areas. And I am a balanced dog trainer who can help with all things from bringing a puppy home, basic obedience, behavior shaping, off leash training, and much more.
•
I am truly passionate about helping owners build the best relationships with their furry family members.
•
Stay tuned for more updates! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! 🐾

As the Holidays come around - training sessions are filling up! Please be sure to let me know if you'd like to set one up.
This is a fantastic time for your pup to learn a "place" command so if you have any guests over they aren't waiting at the door to be your welcome committee. The place command gives them somewhere else to be so you can take coats, treats, and just greet your guests without having to worry about your pup jumping and knocking food or wine from your guests arms.
A place command is also great so when everyone is in the kitchen nibbling on snacks or when you're all at the table eating dinner your pup doesn't have to be under grammy waiting for scraps to fall.
We can schedule a one-on-one session ($50 for an hour) to go over "House Manners" which include; not jumping on guests or counters, place command, safe house zones for the pup while all the festivities take place, learning a "leave it" to avoid getting into wrapped presents or your beautifully decorated tree. All small things you don't necessarily think about UNTIL it's happening.
Send me a message if you'd like to set up a training session or if you have any questions about training in general for your pup. No pup is ever too old to learn some new tricks :)

Meet Toto! 🐶 This little doodle made great progress after one session. To control excitement levels we worked on a place command so Toto can learn self control and patience!

Does your pup have a hard time walking on the leash? Or a harness?
•
•
Ruby is a very loving but scared of a new harness! She wasn’t walked much as a puppy so getting her on walks was a challenge. But working with her the last few weeks she’s been doing amazing!! She is using my favorite harness - the to help keep any tension off the neck. Front clip harnesses are amazing for dogs who pull a lot. It comes in various sizes as well! (Not an ad, just a plug for me) 🙃

Is training the new puppy a little harder than you thought? Are those puppy classes just not what you were looking for? Maybe you went to a board and train and haven’t kept up with it. Or maybe your four legged friend is 80% perfect and you just need some help for those little things. - You’ve come to the right place!
I absolutely LOVE training dogs for so many reasons. But the biggest reason is because I’ve been EXACTLY where all of my clients have been. I’ve adopted a puppy who was 8 weeks old and had to learn all about the razor blade teeth, the accidents in the house, teaching a dog to ask to go outside, crate training, leash handling, and everything in between.
I’ve had my pup grow up and learn to sit at the front window and bark NON-STOP with no way to control it or make it stop. I tried the bark collar, the e-collar, closing the blinds, etc. and none of it worked. Or when he would pull on his leash and try to drag me around on walks, I was so against using a harness until I learned how amazing they truly can be. I’ve had dogs in our family my entire life and we always love our furry family members. But we don’t always realize how much work a pet can be.
I’ve been there. So when I have a client call me for the first time saying their dog is so smart and so sweet, BUT he/she does x, y, and z. They have no idea how to fix it or how to control it. I always tell them “for starters, take a breathe! I know what you’re going through.” The behavior issues I hear from my clients are always similar in some way so I promise - you are not alone in your dog ownership struggles.
I would see people post questions on pages about their dog hating the crate, barking non stop, jumping on people, pulling on walks, etc. And I thought to myself, I can fix that for them, I can fix x, y, and z. It just takes A LOT of patience, practice, a positive attitude, and lots of love for your pup!
Positive Reinforcement Recall training for a dog has been so effective that even after one session with a dog, I already see improvement! There’s no better feeling when you train a dog and you can see them start to get it, you see it click in their brain! Plus when that happens the owners typically get super excited and shower their pup with love. It’s such a rewarding process, and it helps you bond even more with your pup!
Interested in scheduling an intro training with your four-legged family member? Shoot me a message and let’s get that 80% perfect to 100%!
