Riding is about, allowing a horse to use their body. They aren’t always straight. Her you see the angle of my mares back. You can’t ride with heels jammed down. The riding comes from the hip, inner leg, back and abdominal muscles.
You have to move with the horse sometimes. This means you can’t ride like a maniquine. Perfectly straight, stiff and not altering. You have to be supple in the hips, giving hands. Sometimes the seat is closed in the hip angle, sometimes it’s open. Riding is a dance with timing and partnership.
I’ve told my students many times. Relax, feel the horse, forget everything you have been told about your seat from other trainers. It’s incorrect and it’s causing body pain in your horse.
This is also why I ride ba****ck and treeless. You can’t feel your horse with a piece of wood between you and your horse.
