One of our favorite horses at Wyndham Oaks II!

As long as we're getting snow, we're posting fun snow pix! This is Penny Lane, a Haflinger living in Maryland. Ever since we first encountered her this past Summer, she's become a regular feature on our social networks.

And why not? Look at that flowing mane; such a photogenic horse with such an easy grace. This photo is from about a month ago; the east coast has seen a lot more snow since. One question we get a lot when we see snow photos is "why"? What need is there for a horse to wear a grazing muzzle when there's no snow on the ground?

Penny's owner Cat said that "we're wearing our muzzle again because we may have stuffed our faces for a month while we were muzzle-free!" It's a timely reminder that for some ponies, intake managment is a year-round concern.

Ponies don't lose the desire or drive to eat everything in sight - hay flakes and all - just because of what the calendar says. In point of fact, if you gave a horse a calendar, they would probably try to eat that as well.
