This right here. If not your cat, then whose? All the Not My Cats have been the best for our family!
Sorting through emails. The common theme today is, "Not my cat."
I am not sure how many times I get emails about "It is not my cat".....? One hundred emails? Two hundred emails per a year?
"Can you come take this cat in my yard? It is not my cat" "There is cat on my porch. It is not my cat"
The truth is .... the cat is not OUR cat either. That cat belongs to no one. That cat is a reflection of our society that continues to avoid responsibility for the overpopulation. This lack of accountability is why so many cats continue to suffer outdoors... under porches, in the greenhouse, in sheds, under homes. "Not my cat" is an ongoing excuse that rescuers hear constantly.
If you see a cat in your yard. Please treat that cat with basic respect. Feed that cat. House that cat, even if it is just a winterized outdoor tote. Make plans to get that cat fixed. Washington State has FREE spay/neuter for feral cats - Getting that cat fixed, is one of the most selfless and kindest things that you can do. It will, likely, be the only time that cat will ever see a vet in their lifetime.
Rescues WANT to help you. But there are too many cats in need. That saying, "Many hands make light work" applies to "Not my cat" - As a community we need everyone to take a little responsibility. We are happy to talk you through booking free appointments, trapping, transporting.... But the rescues just cannot keep up with every single cat in every single yard. And honestly, we should not be required to.
2026, no more excuses. Please get "not my cat" fixed ❤️🙌
