These sweet pups came to us after the heartbreaking loss of their owner, and now they're hoping to find a new family to cherish them as a pair!

Ruby Rose is a stunning 3-year-old Redtick Coonhound, all heart and loyalty. She's housebroken, crate trained, and absolutely adores kids and other dogs. A true protector, she'll keep your yard safe, but watch out—she's a clever climber, so a secure, hound-savvy home is a must!

Rinny is a handsome 7.5-year-old Redbone Coonhound with a big voice and an even bigger heart. Playful, outgoing, and full of classic hound energy, he loves kids and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Rinny thrives when he can explore and serenade the neighborhood with his charming hound song!

Both of these sweet hounds have known love and comfort. They promise to bring joy, loyalty, and plenty of happy hound antics into your life. Are you ready to welcome this incredible duo into your home? Come meet Ruby Rose and Rinny today!

This beautiful girl is Gabby-Jo, and with her mother’s permission, we want to share her heartbreaking story in the hope that no other pet parent experiences this tragedy.

Gabby-Jo was brought to us in critical condition, suffering from Pyometra, a bacterial infection of the uterus. Our team immediately provided intensive care, but the infection had progressed too far, and it was too late to save her from the toxic effects of the bacteria. Her passing is a devastating reminder of how quickly this silent threat can take hold. If you have an unspayed female dog, please take a moment to learn more about preventing Pyometra, in honor of Gabby-Jo.

What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus that affects unspayed female dogs, usually a few weeks after a heat cycle. The infection can lead to rapid toxicity and organ failure.

What Do I Look For?
Early detection is crucial, but symptoms can be subtle at first. If your unspayed female dog exhibits any of the following signs, especially a few weeks after a heat cycle, seek veterinary attention immediately:
• Vaginal discharge (pus may be bloody or mucus-like)
• Fever
• Increased thirst and urination
• Lethargy or weakness
• Decreased appetite or refusal to eat
• Swollen abdomen
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Excessive licking of the v***a

What Can Pet Parents Do?
The most effective way to prevent Pyometra is to spay your female dog. Spaying removes the uterus and ovaries, eliminating the possibility of this infection entirely. It's a routine procedure that offers numerous health and behavioral benefits. Visit our website (bgshelterpets.com/25) to learn more about the benefits and how you can book your dog's spay for as low as $25 at the Hotaling Spay Neuter Clinic.

Gabby-Jo's story is a heartbreaking testament to the dangers of Pyometra. Please, if you have an unspayed female pet, talk to your veterinarian about spaying. Be vigilant for any changes in their health and seek immediate veterinary care if you suspect anything is wrong. Our hearts go out to Gabby-Jo's family, and we hope her story can help save other beloved pets.

We have some truly special bonded pairs here at BGWCHS who are dreaming of finding their forever homes together. We know that adopting two pets at once might seem like a big step, but with these sweet boys and girls, you'll be gaining twice the love, twice the fun, and twice the loyalty.

🐱Ivan & Oswin🐱
Oswin is a 7-year-old female and Ivan is a 9-year-old male, and they've shared a special bond since they first met six years ago. They are looking for a quiet home where they can curl up together, enjoy peaceful moments, and find a warm lap for pets. Oswin and Ivan's adoption has also been generously sponsored!

Oswin: petfinder.com/petdetail/76872361

🐶Brutus & Magnum🐶
These gentle giants are looking for a loving home where their incredible loyalty and hearts can truly shine. Magnum is the playful, cuddle-seeking big kid who loves to chase toys and entertain, while Brutus is the wise, chill soul who enjoys slow strolls and naps, occasionally surprising everyone with a burst of playful energy. These brothers are the perfect balance of fun and calm, wonderful with children, and thrive with plenty of space to explore (and no cats, please). They are definitely a staff favorite, and it’s unbelievable that they’ve been at the shelter for nearly two months, patiently waiting for their new family to find them!

🐱Shiloh & Floof🐱
Shiloh (a 2-year-old female) and Floof (a 1-year-old male) are ready to charm their way into your heart! Both have amazingly luxurious, silky fur. Shiloh is an immediate love bug, quick to solicit pets and cuddles from anyone willing to give her attention. While Floof is a bit more reserved in the shelter environment, it's clear he'll be equally affectionate once he finds his forever person. These two gorgeous felines promise to bring double the purrs and amazing charm to your home!

🐶Luna Mae & Taz🐶
This sweet mother and son have been through a lot together and are now seeking their forever home as a pair. Luna Mae is a spirited, tennis-ball-loving mom (though heartworm positive, she's full of life!), while her son Taz is a bit more reserved but just as playful, especially when he can "steal" a toy from her. This dynamic duo is great with kids and other dogs, offering double the love and comfort as they transition into their new lives. Give Taz and Luna Mae the chance to fill your home with joy and experience the unique bond of a devoted pair!

Can you believe none of these dogs were adopted this weekend?!? 😱 Please help us share their profiles and find their forever homes!

Brillo (petfinder.com/petdetail/77004190) is a Pit Bull mix with a teddy bear personality. This big hunk is housebroken, great with other dogs, and adores kids. He lives for rope toys, tennis balls, and just wants to be your cuddle buddy! (No cats please.)

Kurtis (petfinder.com/petdetail/77188896) is a one-year-old Pit/Lab mix with a whole lot of love to give. This playful pup is housebroken and absolutely adores kids. He thrives on attention, zoomies, and snuggles, and gets along well with most larger dogs.

Whiskey (petfinder.com/petdetail/77267853) is a 9-month-old terrier and shepherd mix who is looking for a confident mom or dad who can help him learn his doggy manners. He’s a good boy, but as a puppy, he will benefit from patient and consistent training.

There are 1️⃣0️⃣9️⃣ other incredible dogs waiting for a family. ❤️ Come meet them in person, or check out the details here: bgshelterpets.com/dogs-and-puppies

We feel incredibly fortunate that most of the news we get to share with you is filled with positivity and joy – stories of adoption, healing, and happy new beginnings. But as you probably know, there are heartbreaking stories that unfold behind the scenes, away from the celebration. 💔

Lately, our hearts have been breaking repeatedly as we've seen a surge in victims of heatstroke. Unfortunately, despite the incredible care provided by our clinic staff, some of these sweet boys and girls are brought to us too late and their lives are cut tragically short. The beautiful boy pictured here had to say goodbye to his family, and it was clear they loved him SO much.

These animals were not facing intentional abuse or neglect, but when temperatures soar and the heat index climbs, tragedy can strike fast. A moment's oversight, a lack of shade, or insufficient water can turn deadly in minutes. Our hearts ache for each one of these precious lives lost, and for the families they leave behind.

Please, please, take a moment today to consider the safety of your own pets, especially those who spend time outdoors. We do not want to see any more victims of this preventable tragedy.

• Ensure constant access to fresh, cool water.
• Provide ample shade at all times of the day.
• Bring outdoor pets inside during the hottest hours.
• Never, ever leave a pet in a parked car – not even for a minute.
Learn more on our blog: bgshelterpets.com/blog/summer-safety-understanding-heatstroke

If you see an animal outside struggling in these dangerous temperatures – showing signs like excessive panting, drooling, staggering, or collapsing – please be their voice. Report it to local animal control or law enforcement.

Let's work together as a community to keep all our beloved animals safe this summer. Their lives depend on it.

What a joy it is to share these beautiful faces! Each photo represents a new beginning, a second chance, and a lifetime of love. ❤️

Summer is always a challenging season for animal shelters, but this year has been particularly difficult with record numbers of animals arriving and in need of our care. Our kennels have been stretched to their limits, making every adoption even more vital and meaningful.

To all the families who opened their homes and hearts to a shelter pet this week: THANK YOU. You are truly making a difference. You didn't just adopt an animal; you provided comfort, security, and a forever family when they needed it most. Your compassion and willingness to make room for a pet in need is what keeps us going.

From the entire BGWCHS team, we wish you and your new furry family members a lifetime filled with happiness, adventure, and endless love!
