We are devastated to be sharing the news we have lost another special furry friend. We know many of our clients have had the pleasure of meeting this sweetie, “Stowaway”. Over the years he has spent several months of the year with us. He belongs to a relative of our doctors but is like our adopted fur baby. He passed suddenly late this afternoon from a blood clot at the age of approximately 18 yrs. He loved being petted and was the best boy and a good friend to all of us at Alpine for many years. Just a week ago he comforted an elderly man in need of some assistance who wandered up to our clinic. This is especially difficult with the very recent loss of our other sweet boy Petie just a few wks ago. We have one clinic cat remaining, sweet Pumpkin who we worry will be affected by these the passing of his now two friends😞.

Please keep our employees in your thoughts and prayers as we prepare to say good-bye this weekend to this very special boy. We are so sad to announce that we have diagnosed our sweetest boy with advanced lymphosarcoma. We are so very thankful to his previous owners who graciously offered him to us after he was hit by a car and they weren’t able to care for him. They had fed him after he came to them as a stray. His purring despite multiple orthopedic injuries sold us on him staying at Alpine. He became well known and loved by not only all of our employees past and present over the years but also by our clients who loved to pet on him. Petie is at least 17 yrs old and we thought we were going to lose him a year and half ago, so we know we are fortunate to have loved him for so long(having taken him in when he was 1-2 yrs old), but we and our other cat Pumpkin are going to miss him terribly. We love you Petie🐈🧡🐾

In Search of a home for two kittens , one of our vet techs is currently fostering them, they were found in a garage. They are about 6 months old, have had two sets of vaccines, and will need a third in 4 weeks. "Moo" is a male domestic shorthair, " China" is a siamese female. They will need to be spayed and neutered.

THEY MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER.

Please call the clinic at (270)781-7818 with any questions.

Horse blankets on the ready for our doctor’s horses. PLEASE be aware that the incoming weather will not be able to be tolerated by our pets. Boarding facilities/veterinary clinics, etc are going to be full of Christmas boarders. If you see an animal outside during this please try to help it until other help can take over. We are all going to have to work together to make sure our community gets through this without losing human and animal lives. Please be kind to those who will be working so hard through this Holiday weekend to keep pets safe! Prayers for everyone’s safety this weekend!!

Ya’ll, DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY, this is serious. Pets out to potty 5 minutes on a leash or securely confine them in fence for no longer than 5 minutes then it’s indoors!! We had our first heat stroke death today for the summer, accidentally escaped, don’t let your pet be the next statistic, keep them on lead and in sight. Pavement will be too hot even after sunset so no doggie walks tonight. If water source is outside, change it hourly!

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING!!! Please pass this along as we know we are preaching to the choir. These are our doctors dogs, they are very used to being outside with cool shaded concrete, multiple water buckets changed twice daily and a kiddie pool, they will NOT be outside today from 10am-4pm, it is too hot even for the most fit, well acclimated dogs that are young and healthy. Even during broader hours than this you have to be extremely vigilant when your pet is outside. Please do not leave your pet outside in this weather. Many things predispose a pet to a heat stroke in these conditions including but not limited to the following: excessive weight of any amount, matted hair coat, any internal disease processes, external and internal parasites, the very young/old, poor diet, anxiety, high drive retrieving dogs, brachycephalic (short nose) breeds or their crosses, lack of available fresh water being changed out every 2-3 hours, lack of 100 percent shade, access to wildlife to chase…. Do not walk your pet except in the very early morning hours, the pavement does not cool enough in the evenings to go on night time walks.
If you think your pet is experiencing heat related disease then move to air conditioning or fans and place cold wet towels over bare skin areas like inside of upper rear leg, under front limbs, clip hair on neck if hair is long and place in this area as well for better access to the jugular vein. Offer normal temperature water but do not feed for at least 6-12 hours, intestinal tract is a shock organ and does not need to process food when the body is overheated. Shocking the body with cold ice water is NOT recommended, best to bring temp down gradually. Stay cool out there and protect our pets!!!
