Daily Dog Breed overview: Affen pincher 🐾
A small German dog breed known for its monkey like face. Affen means “monkeys” in German.
This breed belongs to the small toy dog group.
This breed is believed to be around since 1600s.
Typically black in color (but can have a variation of colors) and has a shaggy and wiry coat.
They are active, adventurous, feisty, curious, lively, playful and very affectionate towards family member. The breed is often used to perform tricks and you can see them easily walking on their back legs.
They can be stubborn and very protective of family members and their home, as well as territorial towards food and toys.
It’s believed that early breeders used schnauzers, German pinchers and possibly pugs to breed a fearless mouser and ratter who should also be a good companion dog.
Their nature as ratter will make them excited and possibly obsessed with every squeak toy.
Knowing why a dog was breed can help us understand their nature and why they act the way they do.
Affenpinchers are ok with older children, like with most dog breeds use caution with young children.
Overall these are some personality trades that help us understand this breed, a lot will depend on the individual dog and their temperament as well as the environment they live in.
These dogs are also Hypoallergenic and may be great for someone with allergies, however they do shed a bit and will need a bit of grooming.
