Yesterday, you saw Divisha post about the completion of her microchipping project. As her mom, I just wanted to share a little bit of what was happening behind the scenes, because while she shared the outcome, there’s always so much more to the journey.
Back in January, she kicked off with a project plan with spreadsheet, timeline and steps. She had a shelter in mind that she “assumed” would come on board, based on her past work with them. She reached out confidently but it didn’t go as expected. Let’s just say it didn’t work out, she had to rethink her plan.
I saw her struggling a bit. We discussed and she made a list of other shelters and stores she had collaborated with before and began reaching out. Some didn’t respond and some responded with a polite “no” with valid reasons. Sylvia from Juno’s Den explored opportunities, James from Bella’s Voice immediately agreed for the location and connected her with the microchipping partner. But that organization wasn’t responding.
Then she worked with the amazing team of Everett Animal Shelter but unforunately the turnout was poor for a variety of possible reasons like a bad accident on I-5 and the detour was taking triple the usual time and apparently there was a famous dog event Poochella in Marysville at the same time etc. So even though they planned everything so well, it did not work out. So she again had to explore ways and finally her new connection with the Rainier Anjmal Fund worked out very well. In the process she learned about many new organizations doing great work!
And while I was there offering suggestions and encouragement, I mostly stayed in the background watching how things unfolded. It was eye-opening for her. She’s young, passionate, and you all have been so supportive of her journey. But this experience taught her that the world doesn’t always work the way we expect. Nothing usually comes easy in the real world.
Sometimes, age and good intentions aren’t enough. Priorities differ. People and organizations are busy. Even with a grant in hand, not everything aligns perfectly. And that’s okay.
She learned to accept a “no,” to face redirections, and to keep moving forward. These lessons about resilience, adaptability, and respect are just as valuable as the project itself.
Thank you to everyone who responded to her outreach whether yes or no. Every response shaped her growth in some way. And thank you, as always, for the unwavering love and support you show her. ❤️
