Maxine was pregnant when she was rescued from Wags and Walks Nashville. She'd had several litters before, and her owner, Sicily, always wondered what happened to all those puppies. A few years ago, she ran an Embark test on Maxine and just last year, a match appeared: Maxine's son, Mr. Beans, living up in New Hampshire with his mom, Kim.

The two families connected, traded stories, and met up during a trip to Maine. In Sicily's words: "It's so special to see another piece of her and know one of her babies has a wonderful life. I tell her we'll see the others one day."

Meet Mazey — the first time her foster met her at a neighboring shelter, Mazey's whole body wiggled with excitement, happy, hopeful, and eager to meet everyone around her. The next visit, she was back in a kennel with her head down and the sparkle completely gone. Her foster picked her up that same day and has been fostering her ever since. Despite whatever she experienced before the shelter, Mazey chooses joy every single day — she is silly, affectionate, and loves with her whole heart. She even attended a Detroit Tigers game where thousands of people stopped to pet her and tell her how beautiful she is, soaking up every bit of it like she had been waiting her whole life for exactly that moment.

Mazey's future family can expect a devoted, warmhearted companion who does best as the only pet but gives back enough love for three dogs total. She adores people more than anything in the world and has a way of making whoever she is with feel like the most important person in the room. When treats are coming she does the most endearing little tip-tap toe dance, and at night she curls up close, snoring softly, perfectly content just being near her person. She is the kind of dog who fills a home completely — with warmth, with silliness, with loyalty, and with a joy that is completely contagious. Mazey has so much love to give and simply needs someone to finally give her the chance to give it.

Meet Gerald, a boy whose road to where he stands today is remarkable. He came from a severe animal abuse case, starved nearly to the point of death, and arrived at Pitt County Animal Shelter barely able to walk. He spent months at the vet, slowly gaining weight and relearning how to simply be a dog — a story so powerful it made the news. What has emerged from all of that suffering is a gentle, easy, and deeply lovable boy.

Gerald's future family can expect a low-maintenance and loving companion. His foster could not say enough good things about him — he doesn’t jump, doesn’t destroy anything, is fully house-trained, and has claimed a cozy nest of pillows on the bed as his personal sanctuary. He loves dog bones, tough chew toys, and kids, with whom he is wonderfully gentle. He is dog selective and has a strong prey drive around squirrels, chickens, and cats, so a home without small animals would suit him best. After everything Gerald has been through, he deserves a calm, settled life.
