Meet Chops! This handsome senior was brought in by animal control after being found roaming a neighborhood, but you’d never guess he’s been through so much—he’s one of the calmest, easiest-going dogs around. Even after spending eight months at the shelter, Chops stays relaxed and content in his kennel, always greeting people with a wag and a smile.

Chops future family can expect a dog that loves to play with other dogs—running, chasing, and barking right along with his canine buddies. He’s healthy for his age and still has plenty of pep in his step! He hasn’t had the chance to meet cats and kids since coming to the shelter. Chops would love a home where he can enjoy plenty of playtime, a comfortable place to rest, and people who appreciate his easygoing nature.

Meet Laverne! This lovely girl was found as a stray alongside another dog who quickly found a home — now it’s her turn.

She’s a dog who bonds fast and loves deeply, the kind who wants nothing more than to be close to her person. Loyal, affectionate, and eager to belong, Laverne is ready to leave her past behind and move forward with the family she’s been waiting for.

Laverne’s future family can expect a dog with a gentle, loving nature. She does well with submissive dogs and benefits from slow introductions, but she’d be just as happy as an only dog soaking up all the attention.

She’s been wonderful with children over 5, as her wiggly enthusiasm could be a bit much for toddlers. Her future family can expect a devoted companion who gives her whole heart — she just needs someone willing to give her theirs in return.

Before we wrap up 2025, we’re excited to share an update on our Long Stay, No Longer initiative: four more long-stay dogs have found their forever homes — just in time for the holidays!

For anyone new to the initiative, earlier this year we tested 30+ long-stay shelter dogs to highlight their unique breed mixes and show the world just how special they are. Many of these dogs had gone years without a forever home — and now, over half have already been adopted!

Yoshi has been with Pet Harbor for over a year, and he’s more than ready to meet the family he’s been waiting for. He’s full of personality, loves soaking up attention, and never hesitates to share his affection. He can be vocal and is starting to feel a bit stressed in the kennel, so a cozy home would make a world of difference for him.

A family who adopts Yoshi can expect a snuggler who just wants to be part of someone’s everyday life. For the time being, he would do best as an only dog, and with patience, training and a proper introduction, he may be able to be with calm dogs in the future.
