For safety reasons I am cancelling hikes for the rest of this week.

My recommendation is to keep outside time brief, and aim for early in the morning and after the sun is low. Stick to the shade, get plenty of water BEFORE going out, and don’t underestimate the heat.

If you must go out during the heat of the day, check the pavement and if it’s been in the sun, make it QUICK, and stay in the shade!

I still have a couple open slots on Monday and Tuesday if anyone wants to switch days to avoid the worst of the heat.

If the weather stays crazy hot I may have to cancel hikes on Wednesday and Thursday.

My plan for very hot days is to get an early start, stay in the shade, and go right down to the water to hang out and play. We aim to be safe and to take it slow.

Feels like summer is here!

This week we have our first few really hot days of this year. Going from 50-60 to above 90 is a big jump, and on those super hot days, it can be very easy for dogs to overheat.

My summer plan is to get an earlier start to try to beat to the peak heat of the day, we stick to the shady paths where it feels cooler, and spend more time by the water to keep cool. I pay close attention for signs of overheating, bring plenty of water (1gallon just for the pups) and we get out a little early if I see anyone struggling too much with the heat.

All that said, I have a few open slots on Thursday, and just a couple open slots on Friday if anyone wants to change days this week to be extra safe.
