Easter Fun... or Pet Emergency?
As you celebrate this joyful season, don’t forget to keep an eye on your furry family members! Some common Easter items can pose serious risks to pets:
1. Chocolate – Delicious for us, but toxic for dogs and cats. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, and even death.
2. Plastic Easter Grass – This shiny basket filler is irresistible to curious pets, especially cats. If swallowed, it can cause dangerous intestinal blockages requiring surgery.
3. Xylitol – Found in sugar-free candies and baked goods, xylitol is extremely toxic to pets. Even a small amount can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar, seizures, liver failure, and death.
4. Raw Dough – If your Easter feast includes baking, keep unbaked yeast dough away from pets. It can expand in their stomachs and produce alcohol, leading to bloating, disorientation, and alcohol poisoning.
5. Lilies – Many types of lilies are highly toxic to cats, even in small amounts. Ingesting any part of the plant can lead to kidney failure.
6. Table Scraps – Rich or fatty foods can lead to GI upset or pancreatitis in pets. Bones can splinter and cause choking or internal injuries.
If you think your pet may have ingested something harmful, don’t wait—we are here 24/7/365 to help. Our team is always ready, because pet emergencies don’t take holidays.
Wishing you and your pets a safe and happy Easter from all of us at Valor!
