Shining Moon Ranch

Shining Moon Ranch Thank you for your interest in our stock. We compete at the local and national levels with much success. Our animals are long-lived, and productive.

For over 35 years we have maintained a small herd of outstanding Alpine dairy goats in the redwoods of northern California. For over twenty-five years we have maintained a small herd of outstanding Alpine dairy goats on our ranch in the redwoods of northern California. The herd is the result of a strict culling program and is limited to eight milking does. We breed for structurally correct, smooth

ly blended does with capacious, exceptional mammary systems. In addition to striving for excellent individuals, we require that our animals consistently reproduce their qualities. This has resulted in highly successful doe lines that produce champion progeny for generations. Our does are known for their productivity and are in many dairies throughout the state. The herd is closed with the exception of bucks purchased or leased to breed to our does. We do not board; our animals are CAE and abscess free.

The pomp and circumstance of winning National Champion is always exhilarating and really feels like the ultimate moment. We bask in that success.

But when you take a step back and look at it through the lens of a breeding program, perhaps, almost equally as exciting but with less bells and whistles is the potential of a young buck who looks to be a foundational sire, something we have not had in over a decade. The strength of dam lines can sustain you, but it never hurts to get a "great one".

Introducing....

Tempo Aquila Free Pacer

I've not been shy about my love of Sprocket. She really felt exceptional to me. I've no qualms saying that I thought she stole the show in Redmond in 2023 as a seven year old. I've used her in my ideal type presentations.

Sprinkle a little Living Free in there and we felt it was a recipe for success.

Pacer's first daughters are so lovely! He placed 4th place senior get at Grand Island with three yearlings! And his daughters were 2nd/1U, 4th/3U, 8th and 10th. We have retained 5 milking yearling daughters.

Pacer is getting collected on Oct 10th by XCell Genetics. If all goes well, semen would be available with transport to convention.

Pictured are his 5 daughters in the herd at various times over the summer. From 4 dams.

We are honored and grateful for how our does placed at the 2025 ADGA Nationals. Thank you to the incomparable and remarkable Trinity Malmanis for her guidance and the care and love she gives the goats each day. Trinity, you are simply the best there is.

It takes a lot to make sure everything goes well on national show day. We thank Danni Louie, Brent Rocha, Jill Pritchett, and Chuck Pedersen for helping the animals look their best.

Moxie is our first national champion. Although we have not been able to attend many national shows, we have long admired the does who reached the top; we strived towards having a Shining-Moon doe get there too. During this decades-long journey we have had so many mentors and colleagues imbue their wisdom, guidance, and support. This includes Jennifer Bice and Steven Shack, Donald Smith, Sheila Nixon, Karen and Krista Senn, Kristi and Allison Bozzo, Karen, Walter and Fauna Smith, Joannie and Charlie Rowe, Barbara Backus, and Marty Holzhauser. And our gratitude to those who have shared their herds' genetics with us – including Mark Baden, Laurie Acton, Scott Bice, Dan Drake, and Randy Hoach.

We love Alpines – their elegance and style, their attitude, their productivity. We will continue to breed β€œthe modern alpine” and look forward to what comes next. But for now, we will celebrate, reflect, and be thankful.
