From My Heart as a Groomer ❤️
After nearly 40 years of grooming, I don’t think most people truly see everything that goes into caring for pets professionally each day.
Grooming is so much more than giving dogs haircuts.
Every single day we work with senior dogs, anxious dogs, puppies learning the process for the first time, rescue dogs, dogs with mobility issues, dogs who dislike nail trims, ear cleaning, brushing, dryers, standing for long periods, or even being away from home. Some pets need extra patience, extra breaks, special handling, familiarity, reassurance, or slower pacing to safely and humanely complete what needs to be done for their health and comfort.
A caring groomer’s job is not just to “get it done.” It’s figuring out how to safely and compassionately balance the pet’s physical needs, emotional stress level, comfort, behavior, timing, and safety while still accomplishing what owners need done.
And the truth is… not every dog is going to happily run through the grooming salon door. That does not automatically mean they are being mistreated. Many dogs simply do not enjoy certain parts of grooming — nails being trimmed, mats being brushed, ears cleaned, standing still, or dryers blowing on them. Groomers constantly balance compassion with the responsibility of properly caring for pets.
People also often don’t see the behind-the-scenes moments groomers quietly handle throughout the day:
dogs having accidents and needing completely re-bathed,
pets vomiting from stress,
dogs stepping in urine or f***s,
senior pets needing extra cleanup and support,
or schedules suddenly changing because a nervous or elderly pet needs more time than expected.
As a small mother-daughter salon, we do everything ourselves. We do not have receptionists, bathers, or large teams behind the scenes. It’s us personally caring for every pet entrusted to us while also managing schedules, messages, phone calls, cleaning, safety, and timing throughout the day.
So if I occasionally seem brief or focused during busy moments, please know it is not because I do not care. In fact, it’s usually because my attention is fully on the pets currently in my care — making sure they are safe, comfortable, calm, and properly cared for.
I care deeply about my clients and their pets. I always have.
And after nearly 40 years in this profession, one thing I know for certain is that grooming requires compassion, patience, emotional energy, physical endurance, experience, and professional judgment every single day.
To the clients who trust us with their furry family members — thank you. Your trust means more than you know. ❤️
