Campo man charged after injured dog’s leg amputated due to neglect

A Campo man accused of failing to seek care for his severely injured dog, resulting in the amputation of the animal's right hind leg, has been charged by local prosecutors with felony animal cruelty, it was announced Tuesday.

An urgent reminder from San Diego County Animal Services: If you evacuate to a shelter, take your pets with you. All pets need to be contained if possible. Dogs need to be leashed or in a carrier, cats need to be in a carrier. Have your identifying information on them, with a collar or on the carrier, in case they become separated from you.

Monte Fire Animal Evacuations – Important Information from San Diego County Animal Services

San Diego County Animal Services is assisting with animal evacuations due to the Monte Fire. If your home is in harm’s way, please evacuate your livestock to:

11055 Moreno Ave
Lakeside, CA 92040

If you may need to evacuate, we urge you to prepare now.

Mark your large animals with a livestock crayon or a tag that includes your contact information and any critical notes such as “allergic to alfalfa” or “will kick.”

Begin gathering supplies early. It can take time to load animals and belongings.

Bring a leather halter, a lead rope, and at least seven days’ worth of feed and water if possible.

If you need assistance evacuating large animals, please contact San Diego County Animal Services emergency dispatch at (619) 236-2341.

If you evacuate to a shelter, take your pets and large animals with you. Dogs should be leashed or in a carrier, cats must be in a carrier, and other pets should be contained and wearing identification or have a clearly tagged container in case they become separated from you.

Please act early to protect yourself and your animals.
