Rio has to come into his stall while Ginger and Romulas eat because, well, they get a lot of grain. πŸ˜… Until today that meant he had to stay in his stall for a while since I had so many things to do and he was a little bit of a handful.

But! We have been working on his ground manners and showing him that not everyone in the world is a grumpy mare. Today was the first time he was polite enough that he could go out without me. Super proud of him and super thankful to Jennifer for taking such amazing care of the horses when I'm otherwise engaged. ❀️

He is most pleased. πŸ₯°

Moving Mr.Peabody to his new home! Hopefully the new fencing will hold him in better! He was very excited to be out of the stall we've been keeping him in while fixing his new house. ❀️

New additions to lease rules!

Good evening everyone! We have had a couple different incidents involving lease horses so we are updating the rules to help keep everyone and the horses safe! Please review and follow these new rules:

i. Tack is NOT mix and match
a. Please ensure that the tack going on the horse you are riding is labeled with that horses name.
b. Please do not change out ANY tack or pieces of tack.
c. Reins ONLY can be exchanged for comfort of the rider
d. Tack is fitted to each horse. Especially the bridles are set at the correct place to ensure comfort to the horse and clear communication from the rider.
i. Anyone seen putting the wrong bridle on a horse will be asked to leave and not return.
e. Other people use this tack to ride as well. Even if you are experienced enough to adjust the tack to fit the horse you are riding, they might not realize that it has been adjusted and won’t look. Tack is horse-specific.
f. If there are any issues, questions, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Kathryne (214-793-4047)

ii. Use your approved lease horse only
a. Only ride the horse that you have contracted to use.
i. If there is an issue (someone using your horse, your horse is lame, etc) contact Kathryne to find out what horse you can use. Some people have already been approved to use more than one horse.
b. If you outgrow your current horse and are looking for a more advanced horse, speak with Kathryne to determine what horse you might be interested in using.
c. If you choose to bring a guest to ride, confirm with Kathryne what horse your guest will be riding.
d. If your horse is on injury leave then we will discuss which horse you can ride during the interim period.

iii. There are several horses here that are boarded/Not for lease. These horses are not to be brought in even for grooming without their owner’s permission. Please do not just grab a random horse out in pasture and bring it in to use it. If you have a question please contact Kathryne (214-793-4047)

Current rules that are being reiterated
iv. Anyone entering the farm must sign a Release of Liability Waiver
a. Blank waivers are over on the office wall next to the calendar
b. Signed forms can be left there as well
v. Any guest riding an extra horse is to pay $50.00 for the day for the ride.
vi. Saddles and bridles are to be returned to their spots when you are finished using them, not left randomly about the barn.
vii. Tack, halters, lead ropes, reins, grooming brushes, etc are to be put away when finished being used.
viii. Tack room door is to be closed while you are riding and before you leave for the day. Any time you are not actively going in and out/tacking your horse please be sure that the tack room door is shut.

As always, do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything that is unclear or that you are unsure about. We want to remain easy, low stress, family friendly, and safe for all riders and animals.

We continued work with both Rio and Ginger today. Ginger only needed minor encouragement to go over the bridge today. She did great! ❀️

Rio also did very well. We worked a LOT on woh! And desensitizing. One of the reasons he can be hard to catch in pasture is because he always thinks you're chasing him. He did very well standing today for all the desensitizing and he even offered to come to me several times. He is really picking up on this. I wonder if it's because the girls were chasing him always in his last home, ans here the 2 horses he is with are a lot more passive. He's really learning more friendly social behavior.

Paradise Pastures is working with Whiskey so I do not have any photos. But just so anyone knows who is wondering about her, she is doing so well! She comes over to the gate to see me when she thinks I'm Jennifer 🀣🀣 and Jennifer says she comes when she is called. She is such a sweet girl and has really made friends with MaRu and Wendy. Aurora is still a little jealous but they will figure it out. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Rio trying to free Ginger so she can escape work today. Ginger was not particularly impressed with his valiant efforts. πŸ˜…

Ginger absolutely refuses to go over the bridge. Even following another horse she is just like nope! Not my thing!

So today we worked on that a little bit. I missed all the good ones like where she leapt over the whole bridge without setting foot on it. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ₯° but she did eventually both cross over the bridge short way and also walked over it long way. She stood up on it looking a tad spooky but was glad when it didnt open up and eat her.

Romulas happened to be hanging out in the arena at the same time and he was legit staring at Ginger like 'what is wrong with you?!' When she took that leap over the bridge. Lol

Sweet Ginger is just such an amazing little mare. I juat love her. ❀️

Lol no videos because I'm not good enough to video and teach a horse at the same time on Day 1! But if I could y'all would be as proud of Rio as I am! Today was his first day of class and he did amazing! He is opposite of what I usually train so we are going forward slowly so both of us can do right from the beginning!

He lunges very well and very politely. My friend worked with him the other day and really taught him the basics. Rio is very polite and listens right away when you ask him to run! His hard thing is stopping and letting you walk up to him. He doesn't quite know the difference between active and passive body language yet but he is picking it up! Previously he was pastures with 3 mares that always chased him around and didnt give him much love so he's really great at running away. Teaching him to come will take a few more sessions I think.

We've been working with him as far as walking him to and from pasture/stall to get him pretty good at being caught, walking on the lead line, going through small spaces, and generally just being polite and safe on hand. He has done so well and offers his trust right away.

Today he spent a lot of time learning to stand vs learning to run. It was not difficult to teach him how to run correctly. So aftee that we just worked on teaching him when tonstand and relax. You can see from the photos as he got calmer and understood that sometimes we just like to stand and breath.

He's really great now at the verbal command of 'woh' and stops almost immediately. But as soon as you move again he wants to move again! We worked on that for a bit and taught him that he doesn't need to run when I'm walking up to him. We also did a lot of desensitizing with the stick/string and the lead rope too. At first any time I picked up the stick in the air at all he was like 'oh! Time to go!'. But he quickly learned and understood what we were asking for. Before we finished today's lesson we were tossing the string and lead rope over his back and legs with no issue and he was just standing there thinking we were weird. 🀣πŸ₯°

He is such a smart boy and he will make an amazing riding horse some day. ❀️

Fred is available for lease! Fred is suitable to an intermediate rider OR a beginner rider under supervision/ taking lessons. Fred has a mind of his own and, although he has never offered to buck/kick out/ etc, he can sometimes be frustrating to manage. For someone with experience and determination he is an amazing horse!

Fred is a POA (Pony of the Americas) and he has all the attitude you would expect from a pony. He is pushy and will walk right over your kiddo if either of y'all are not paying attention. He stands well for grooming, tacking, and even for riding 😜.

His steering is so so. A beginner who is under the supervision of an experienced rider can definitely ride him and he will teach them how to give less pressure to get more results. Intermediate or advanced riders should have little to no trouble riding him. The main thing is he'll get stubborn if you are in his mouth too much/too loud with your hands. We are currently working on teaching him neck reining which I think will really benefit him. (Beginning stages only right now lol).

Fred is amazing for pony rides and loves being groomed ans dressed up. He loves treats, too, and getting loved on by his people.

Fred is good on trail or in the arena. He can clear all of our trail obstacles-when he wants to πŸ˜‰-and is a steady, good pony. He can be one of the most fun to ride and also one of the most aggravating. 😬 He's a pony! ❀️
