Have you ever wondered why many horses are resistant to having the front of their faces petted? Or why they spook at objects that have been there but they act like they didn't see them? It is because of the unique field of vision equines possess.

Try this science experiment. Hold one finger up with your arm extended in front of you. Stare at it. Now shut one eye then open it and quickly shut the other eye.

Did the finger appear to move over an inch or 2?

This is what happens when a horse makes a bit of a turn and an object switches from one eye's vision to the other. It is why the blue garbage can at the edge of the arena you were passing with your horse just fine, suddenly becomes scary when clearly the horse has already seen it.
