Chocolate seems to be everywhere during the holiday season, but if your pet indulges, it could mean a trip to the ER. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it can be which puts chocolate at the top of the naughty list for pets. Grapes and raisins, while enjoyable for us, are at the top of the “do not feed list” for our pets. Although research has yet to determine the exact substance in grapes and raisins that is dangerous to dogs, they are extremely toxic. Ingesting grapes and raisins can lead to acute, sudden kidney failure. If your dog eats grapes or raisins, you should contact your veterinarian immediately or head to your nearest emergency veterinarian.

Bananas can be an excellent treat for your dog. They are high in potassium, biotin, fiber, and copper. And they’re low in calories, cholesterol, and sodium. Like many other fruits, they are higher in sugar, so don’t share too many slices. And you’ll want to watch out for the peel as that is not digestible and can cause an obstruction. But feel free to peel it, slice it, and share it! You can even try freezing some banana slices for a cool treat.

Peaches are a summer favorite but sharing with your pet should be done cautiously. The fruit is high in fiber and vitamin A, and peaches can help fight infections. The fleshy fruit is fine to share, but you’ll want to remove the pit and dispose of it safely. Peach pits contain cyanide which would be toxic to your dog if ingested.

PUPDATE: Bella has been adopted!
Guten Morgen! Say hello to Bella! Bella is a beautiful and very smart 6-month-old German Shepherd dog. Bella has been trained in German, gets along with cats and dogs, and adores people. Bella is still just a puppy and she has loads of energy to burn. We'd love to find Bella a home where she will continue to receive training, get plenty of exercise, and get to be a member of the family. We'd love to find someone with experience with German Shepherds or other highly intelligent breeds. If you are interested, please give us a call to learn more (208) 634-3647.
