Congratulations to Kyle Jackson for winning this game of guess the species!

The golden tailed gecko, Strophurus taenicauda, is a small aboreal gecko native to north eastern Australia. They are nocturnal ambush predators and prefer to patrol trees waiting for climbing insects.

Not only will they play dead when frightened, which can be seen in an image below, S. taenicauda is capable of spraying a foul smelling sticky fluid from specialized dorsal tail glands. Not to worry, as this behavior does not seem common in domestic individuals.

We currently have two S. Taenicauda with plans to have offspring avaliable within another year or so.

We actually acquired these little ones last fall, but have been so busy that we sadly never got around to giving them a spotlight. They are some of the coolest and rarest animals we are currently privileged to have in our care, so we are super excited to finally show them!

Happy Friday everyone! We're just one week out from the Reptile Show in Boise, and we are in preparation mode now.
This time around we will have the mystery drop machine returning, with cute plush prizes, plants, isopods and springtails, discounts, and whole colonies! We will have 7 colonies available in the mystery drop machine and some available for purchase as well.
We hope to see some of you at the show!

Rambutanura sp. are a type of tropical soil dwelling arthropod, commonly referred to as a springtail.

This species is thought to prey exclusively on protists like slime molds.
