Here are some helpful tips when introducing a new pet to your dog! 👀
🔔Tip #1
Select a neutral space where neither the new pet nor your dog has established territory. This could be a neighbor's yard, a park, or a separate room in your home.
🔔Tip #2
Have both your dog and the new pet on leashes to maintain control during the initial introduction.
🔔Tip #3
Initially, allow the animals to see and smell each other without direct contact. Keep a safe distance while allowing them to observe one another's presence.
🔔Tip #4
Pay close attention to the body language of both animals. Look for signs of aggression, fear, or discomfort such as raised hackles, growling, barking, hissing, or excessive submission. If either pet displays these behaviors, separate them immediately.
🔔Tip #5
If both pets seem calm and curious after observing each other from a distance, you can gradually allow them to get closer. Move them a little bit closer while observing their reactions. Use treats and positive reinforcement to reward calm behavior.
