Nothing short of miraculous! Horses getting back into stalls after a “once every 500 year” flood two plus weeks ago. Our incredible staff, restoration contractors, plumbers, electricians, vendors and of course volunteers, including our colleagues from the equestrian community around the great state of Texas made this possible. Thank you for all of the support and encouragement!

Sunday evening update: horses are back in one of the pastures, everything that got wet has been removed and demolished, stall mattresses are being reinstalled and the creek is back to barely a trickle. Lots of thought and planning going in to how we rebuild in a way that anticipates more “once every 500 year” floods. Last year Mother Nature let us off with virtually no damage. We didn’t get so lucky this year, but we learned some expensive lessons and will be better prepared should there be a next time.

Last Friday morning, we didn’t have a plan beyond making sure horses were safe and well cared for. We had poured everything we had into fulfilling our dream of creating a world-class equestrian facility. Everyone in the business knows this is not the way to make money. But it was our passion. We made sure to build outside of the 200 year flood plain. And we spent and spent more to take extra precautions by raising the foundation height another two feet higher, exceeding the highest level of flooding ever recorded in our area. And still flood insurance wasn’t available, at any price. Yep, we took a calculated risk, and we lost.

By Friday night, we had a plan. We had a team hired and we had an incredible amount of support from our staff, trainers and community. Our colleagues in the equestrian community turned out in force to help us move horses to the Rose Palace while we cleaned up the mess. We have had help come from as far away as Houston, Lubbock and Pilot Point. People that showed up because they know time was not our friend in the race against mold.

Today, a week later, thanks to the help of a small army, including staff, trainers, customers, suppliers, disaster recovery professionals, electricians, plumbers, and many volunteers, we are getting ready to re-open. Feed and shavings are back in the hay barn. Stalls are clean and stall mattresses are almost dry. The indoor arena will take a bit more time but we’ve got a team ready to rebuild the footings as soon as it is dry enough. It will take a while before the retail, offices and vet suite are rebuilt, but we are well on our way. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for all of the support from across Texas.

Good morning, everyone!

Today marks Day 6 of recovery. Every day the ranch looks a little different, and that’s because of the incredible people who have shown up to help. While we’ve made tremendous progress, we still have a lot of work ahead of us.

Today’s biggest needs are:

Water
Gatorade
Wide shovels
Metal landscape rakes
Bleach
Extra hands to help with cleanup

We’re continuing to remove debris, clear mud, recover items from around the property, sanitize affected areas, and clean equipment. The work is physically demanding, but every volunteer and every donated tool or cleaning supply helps us make more progress.

More Day 4 Progress: Electricity and water returned today. Clean stalls, clean alleys, clean hay barn ready for feed and shavings. Still LOTS to do. Still caked and now baked inches of mud on some floors, half the rehab barn flooring is gone and the stall mattresses need to be removed and dried. Plus a ton of wall demolition to ensure no mold. But we are making real progress!

First of all, THANK YOU. Because of this incredible community, we continue to make progress every single day. Our volunteers and staff have been working tirelessly in the heat, and we are so grateful for every person who has shown up to help. We continue to need and we greatly appreciate all of the volunteers that are able to come and help with this great clean-up effort.

Day 3 of clean up comes to an end. Huge progress! Photos show before and after. And a couple of our partners who can still outpace the youngsters. We can’t thank all of the volunteers and our staff enough for all of your help over the past four days. It takes a village and there isn’t another village like this one anywhere! Good morning, everyone!

Today, our biggest need is simple: PEOPLE.

We need hands. The work is dirty. It’s hot. It’s exhausting. And we would greatly appreciate any help you can give to help us get it done. Every extra set of hands makes a difference.

Current volunteer tasks include:

Clearing debris
Picking up fencing and storm debris
Gathering lost items from pastures
Cleaning and organizing equipment
General ranch cleanup

If you’re willing and able to help, please text Emma at (816) 813-1674 to coordinate before coming to the ranch. After speaking with a staff member, please plan to bring muck boots and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

If you’d like to donate physical items, a case of water or Gatorade/electrolyte drinks would be greatly appreciated to help keep our coolers stocked and our volunteers hydrated throughout the day.

Good morning!

We are hard at work today cleaning up and clearing debris. While there is a lot of work ahead, we are incredibly thankful to say that our immediate supply needs are currently being met because of all of you. Your generosity has been overwhelming, and we cannot thank this community enough.

At this point, our biggest needs are extra hands and hay nets for our horses.

We are looking for volunteers to help with:

Clearing debris
Gathering lost items throughout the pastures
Cleaning and organizing equipment
General cleanup around the ranch

If anyone has new or gently used hay nets they would be willing to donate, they would be greatly appreciated as we continue caring for our horses in their temporary space. --- NEED HAS BEEN MET
