Good dogs and Dead Rats
It's not often in the past 20 years of smashing rats with dogs and sticks that I've had the opportunity to get after large numbers.
The average chicken coop and farm hold only as many rats as there is available food sources.
Seeing one doesn't equal a hundred, especially for rattus norvegicus where the largest dominant pairs always hold the best habitat.
These photo is the culmination of years of ratting with dogs, and the experience to set up a challenging environment in a way that rats couldn't escape easily.
We worked 2 shifts of approximately 3.5 hours each, set up 300 yards of netting to contain overwhelming numbers, and used 6 prime , 2 senior, and several young or inexperienced dogs.
This catch from an industrial setting and was very dangerous for people dogs and I'm thankful no serious mishaps caused injuries.
I'm also thankful for good friends to share the toil and triumphs of an epic day, especially bringing mature experienced dogs to work as my pups come on after several years of just working a pair of dogs and not running a 4 dog pack.
As you can see the catch is so large, it's hard to even photograph, and is close to 200lbs or more of dead rats.
