I am so pleased to announce that B&T Ike went home today!
We collaborated with Balanced K9 Solutions to get Ike in for a last minute board and train since he was being a bit naughty with his dog-mates back home.

This is the second dog I’ve worked with for his owner and I absolutely adore this client and her willingness and dedication to ensuring her dogs have the best life possible without conflict or confusion!
(And training with her is always fun!)

Thank you so much for trusting me with your pups and thank you Isa, from Balanced K9 for helping facilitate these trainings!

B&T Ike goes home tomorrow, so we did some final “place” proofing with distractions… with a little help from the chickens and pigs. (What? They’re tax write-offs 🤷🏼‍♀️😂)

Ike did fantastic. He ignored the chickens and the pigs trying to invade his space even though they tried their best to steal his treats.

Charlotte the pig, however, chose violence at the end and tried to take a bite out of Ike 😅 But Ike handled it like a champ, stayed neutral and held firm to his “place” command without breaking.

Good boy, Ike!

Another successful Board & Train went home today!
B&T Thor has to be my vote for “Most Improved” this month!

When he came in, he was nervous, pi**ed off and his ears were ouchy. He had a lot of ideas and they were not so good! Him being pushy, loud and even sometimes reactive worked to get him his way through life. But after 35 days, he’s a completely different dog.

He can be walked without pulling, knows his “place” and down stay. When he works through all the white noise in his head, even his recall is great!

My favorite part though: the fact that I can get meds in his ears without a muzzle and him trying to bite me. His ear infection was very much improved as well as his cooperative care.

Thor is a very intelligent dog and his owners learned that they they have to be a few steps ahead of him, hold him accountable and not let his bully behavior be tolerated or successful for him.

Congratulations!!

This is WHY you don’t train with a FRANCHISE company.

Dog Training Elite is a franchise. Much like Off Leash, Dog Wizard, Sit Means Sit, etc.

Many of the “trainers” haven’t been through extensive training themselves. They offer quick 2 week training programs which SKIP very important steps in teach dogs pressure and release and go straight into compulsion training and pressure.

The result?

1. Dogs that don’t enjoy doing the work, shut down or exhibit appeasement behavior.
2. Dogs only work when the training tools are on.
3. Training TOOLS such as the e-collar get a bad reputation bc it was NOT introduced properly or conditioned properly (meaning the dog doesn’t even know how to get the right answer before pressure happens).

This is DANGEROUS to the training community. Dangerous for those dogs that can greatly benefit from the use of training tools.
Dangerous for the owners thinking they are getting good quality training.
Dangerous bc the Force Free crowd will use this to back a dangerous and inherently false narrative.

Training tools ARE NOT for every dog. Some dog’s level of titration is very low. Dogs have to learn what the expectation is FIRST Before they ever experience pressure or correction.

Essentially, in this video, she is asking a toddler to solve 2+2 before the toddler knows how to count. Then she’s stimming and increasing level of stim on said toddler for either not answering OR answering with the wrong number…..

VET YOUR TRAINERS! VET THEIR CREDENTIALS! Cheap isn’t good. Good isn’t cheap and 2 weeks isn’t enough time to teach dogs information. AVOID franchise “dog trainers”.

Levi, the 4 year old Malinois, officially completed his Basic Obedience Program in just 35 days 🎉🐾

When Levi first came in, he was doing all the typical “maligator” things: pulling on leash, jumping, nipping and constantly looking for an outlet for all that drive and energy. But underneath all of that was an incredibly intelligent dog that simply needed structure, clarity and guidance.

Over the last 35 days, Levi has made huge progress with his leash manners, impulse control and overall obedience. More importantly, his owners now have a much better understanding of how to properly manage his behaviors, communicate with him and work with the dog in front of them instead of against him.

Malinois are not easy dogs. They’re intense, driven, and insanely smart but when given the right direction, they can be absolutely incredible partners. Levi is proof of that.

Congratulations to Levi and his owners on all the hard work and progress! 👏🔥

Raise your hand if I’ve given you a lecture on how to properly pet your dog?

Did we need a study to ✨simply✨ read body language? Maybe not…. But some people don’t believe me and need the study….

Just don’t let their face unless they are giving body language to ask for it!
ESP if you are a stranger!

If you wouldn’t like your spouse, kids, friends or strangers rubbing you on the head and face every interaction…..don’t do it to the dogs!

Think all petting feels good to your dog? Not even close. Science shows a lot of what we call affection is actually overstimulation. Slow it down. Your dog doesn’t want a drum solo on their head. Slow strokes equal calm, fast pats equal stress.

A new peer-revied study surveying dog and cat owners looked at how touch relates to pet wellbeing and found clear differences between species. For dogs, gentle petting had the biggest positive impact, especially slow, calm stroking along the chest, shoulders, and sides. The more time and physical contact, the better, with added benefits when dogs lean on their owners or sleep close by. This type of touch mimics natural social grooming and helps reduce stress while promoting relaxation. In contrast, owner-initiated petting didn’t have the same effect in cats. What mattered more was cat-initiated contact, particularly head rubbing, also known as bunting. Gentle touch can improve wellbeing, but only when it aligns with the animal’s natural behavior and comfort level. Takeaway: If your dog leans into you, relaxes, or closes their eyes, you’re doing it right, if they pull away or get restless, adjust pressure or location.
