I am PI**ED TF OFF…..
Late Monday night/ Early Tuesday AM (12:30am) I received info regarding a dog at an ER vet that was brought in by animal control. The dog had severe bite wounds all over her body that were necrotic, a broken tooth, lacerated tongue and an ear infection in both ears. Animal Control requested euthanasia due to her injuries and “no room and unable to care for her”.
I immediately volunteered to take responsibility for the dog. Upon calling the shelter/ animal control back to let them know, they changed their mind and said they had to take her in and put her on a 5 day stray hold and I could adopt her after that….. (but why? You just said you couldn’t care for her and wanted to put her down?)
Ok…. Fast forward 48 hours later, the shelter contacted us and said they lifted the stray hold because they couldn’t care for her wounds and were going to euthanize her if no one came and got her…
Say less, help is on the way dear!
My dear friend who initially contacted me was able to get there right away to pick her up. But it gets worse. WAAAAAY WORSE.
The dog, has a name, is a “frequent flyer” and has been in the shelter with her “housemate” or her “mom” and had JUST been adopted out TWO WEEKS PRIOR!!!!!! Her name is Clover.
I’ve attached her adoption post that was made over a month ago.
The shelter said that they contacted the adopter, the adopter surrendered her over the phone and claimed she “got out and got hit by a car”…… weird, last time I checked cars don’t leave puncture wounds and gashes in the shape of canine teeth all over the body, head, nose and neck…..
Clover had CLEARLY been on the street for a while AND had these wounds for a while because as you can see from the pictures they were NECROTIC AF!
Oh… ALSO, Sage, her mom/ housemate is back at/ still at the shelter too. But not “at risk”……
When Clover was picked up today, she was pumped full of gabapentin and trazadone and a few different antibiotics which severely messed up her GI Tract. She was literally peeing brown liquid out of her bu****le and onto the floor. While barely able to stand bc she was so drugged.
Here’s my F’ING issue:
• The shelter that picked her up wasted everyone’s time by deciding to take her back in for 5 day stray hold KNOWING they couldn’t give her proper care
• She was adopted out to someone CLEARLY incompetent DESPITE their post about her needing an experienced adopter.
• Clover CLEARLY has bite wounds and was dumped. But they just called the adopter and took their word that she “escaped and got hit by a car and we don’t want her back”…….. NO! This is neglect! Where’s the investigation? And Are they being put on a ban list from ever adopting again?!
Clover has been failed. She was failed by her original owners back in April that surrendered her and Sage. She was failed by the shelters multiple times and she was failed by the POS that adopted and abandoned her with severe open wounds.
I am SICK AND TIRED of animal shelters failing dogs!
And it IS A PROBLEM! The local shelter in my own county is already doing shady and F’d up things and then retaliating against the whistle blowers (I’m referring to when I picked up my foul weather fosters during the snow storm and there was allegations of inmates fighting dogs, one being one of my fosters and a dog dying….. the rescue I was there with blew the whistle on it and they retaliated. See the story from The Voice Blythewood Newspaper. People called her a liar but I WAS THERE and it happened to one of my dogs!)
But, I digress… this is why there needs to be a STATE STANDARD for shelters. No more municipal run shelters with varying standards. And when there obvious neglect, investigations and accountability!!!
I am MAD to say the least. And for any “nay sayers” or “non believers” that think “oh the shelters would never”…. No, they would. I don’t speak to things I don’t have the facts to and that aren’t real.
And if you have any problem with this post or me calling out a SERIOUS ISSUE, put you money where your keyboard is and go foster a dog! Not for the “adopt don’t shop” crap but because EVERYONES IS FAILING THESE DOGS AND HITTING “LIKE” AND SHARING POST DOESNT HELP!
7! That’s the number of rescues I have helped, fostered, trained, adopted out in the last year and a half! It’s not much but it’s what I can afford to do with everything else I have going on. During that time I’ve seen first hand how the “system” fails these animals over and over again.
🍀 Clover 🍀 will be coming home with me after she is finished with treatment at the doggy hospital and from there I will foster her, evaluate her and either try to find her a REAL home and adopter OR if not, she can live out her days with me.
