We are Jim & Rachel Isch, and we would like to introduce you to

Six Mile Pines Old Dominion Terriers. Jim is in sales, Rachel is a dog groomer, and we both appreciate a really good dog :)

We used to be Lab people. Labrador Retrievers had always been our dog of choice through the years. We deviated once or twice with other breeds, but always came back to the La

b. We bred Labs when our kids were growing up and thought to revive that passion a few years back when we purchased what we were led to believe was a well-bred dog. Unfortunately, a poor right hip cancelled our plans. One day my husband reminded me of a different dog that we had seen while on a trip a few years back, and that we had mildly researched after learning it was a Decker Terrier. Calm, but aware of his surroundings. Not a large dog but commanding in his appearance. The Decker Terrier was a breed still in development, gradually becoming recognized as the Old Dominion Terrier, and we thought being involved in the development of the breed could be a rewarding experience. The more we researched the breed and spoke with Decker/Old Dominion Terrier owners, the more we knew we wanted to get acquainted with this breed and be a part of its success. We purchased our first Old Dominion Terrier, "Bennie", from the great brother-sister team at Lafwa Terriers. Bennie stood proud from the start and bonded with us right away. His straight, clean lines and incredibly symmetrical markings are stunning. Our second purchase was a beautiful pup from Briarbey Old Dominion Terriers, an experienced kennel whose owner is the president of the ODT Club of America. We named her "Bey", and she is a clown! Her strong build and deep color really catch the eye. Both dogs are active & athletic, yet quiet and cuddly. Their medium size and sleek smooth coat make them easy keepers, and their hunting drive will make them an incredible addition to your farm. Their trainability and sporty character make them an excellent candidate for the 4H dog club, agility competitions and other fun activities. On the flip side, they love to be with the family and are just as happy to take a nap on a lap :) You can find the history of the breed and its development at:

So here we are, once again a small hobby breeder, sharing our appreciation of a great dog with others who are looking for a fine, long-term companion, maybe a winner in the ring, a watchful hiking buddy or that sidekick who accompanies you on your chores around the farm. Now that we’ve met, and if you like what you've read, we hope to hear from you real soon!

Bennie, 2 yrs old. Our original Old Dominion Terrier. Bennie is quiet, a snuggler for sure. Not afraid of strangers, well-adjusted and crazy athletic! He is our fastest ODT and always watchful of his surroundings - a smart boy. Gets along well with the other dogs, although he prefers to be the only intact male in his dominion.

Velvet, 1yr old. She was our breeder pick. Graceful and well-muscled, with a deep chest and length of body to balance it all. She is well-adjusted and not afraid of strangers. She gets along great with the other dogs and tries to avoid conflict, although she loves to rough-house with Rusty! A loving gal, athletic and smart.

Life's road is full of twists and turns. Some twists have potholes, leading to disappointment; some turns are well-paved, leading to exciting adventure. Some roads are both.
Circumstances have led me to seek more employment outside the home. This is exciting to me - my husband hopes to retire within the next decade and I am happy to help him toward that goal by contributing more to our nest egg.
This is also disappointing to me because I know with the extra time away from home, I will not have the time to be the breeder of excellence that I was attaining to be. So I am selling some of our dogs. Twists and turns.
This decision did not come easy, because as all of you know, a relationship is formed with each of these quirky, snuggly, wicked-smart dogs! But with that relationship comes responsibility and a strong desire to do well by them. More hours away from home means the best I can do is to get them to homes where they will once again be the focus.
I will post each dog separately. Message me privately if interested.

We had to wait awhile in the vet's office for Rusty's first rabies shot and a microchip placement so I thought I would practice with my photography. He was so good! He was calm and just hung by my legs. When the vet and his assistant came into the room, he just looked at them from his napping position, like, "Hey". So the assistant scooped him up and he took all the pokes like a real champ. 💪🏼
At 17 weeks he is 25.8lb - our largest so far at this age! Thanks again, HPL kennel! Good boy, Rusty. 😘

Rusty is adjusting well to his new pack! He learned the underground fence in literally !hours! and has sprouted a sumptuous winter coat! (Ooo, I like that word... "sumptuous" 😃) Rusty weighed in at 22lb this morning and is 15 weeks old today. Good boy, Rusty!

Hey!
After a break from posting, Six Mile Pines is back in action! Our daughter got married the last weekend of October and boy, that was quite a consuming event! But it was such a blessing also! ✨

On the kennel side of life, I drove to Iowa in October to pick up this manly dude. Meet Rusty, our new future stud! We LOVE Bennie (he is tentatively spoken for), and he has sired some *outstanding* pups. But since we kept Velvet from one of his litters, it is going to be more convenient to have a sire that can service both females, and not have to travel with Velvet to another kennel for breeding. We are excited to watch Rusty develop his structure and temperament. Great-grandpa is Shead's Big Tex, so we are expecting some size increase in future litters! 💪🏼 And his beautiful sable color will add richness to the deep rust accents in their coats.
Welcome, Rusty, to Six Mile Pines!

Looking forward...
Now that we're on break from puppies, it's time to plan the future. Velvet, whom we kept from our '22 litter out of Bennie & Bey (Lafwa x BriarBey), is gorgeous at 9 months and 39.6 lbs. From her well-set ears, to the way she moves, and everything in between, she is on her way to be a fine dam. Her muscles will continue to develop in the coming months, and the length of her body will accommodate them nicely. Her legs are set well underneath and she has so much power! Her chest is broadening, yet she has a graceful neck and a refined muzzle that lend toward a feminine look. The color patterns on her legs and face are symmetrical, making her even more pleasant to look at, and could lend toward more puppies with symmetry as well. And, of course, she has that agreeable ODT nature! I'm never excited to take pictures with a leash in the way, but she was just coming off her cycle and we have to do what is necessary, right? Gratefully, we were able to catch some splendid pics anyway. We are excited to find a suitable pairing for Spring 2024 - DM if you are interested in entering our wait list!

🌞 Well, it's hot here in Indiana! 🌞 Best time for the kiddie pool to come out, and just like any baby, West loves it 🤩 From blowing bubbles while finding pretzels, to simply enjoying the coolness, he was a happy puppy! And, of course, a final shake to dry off is always such a cute pic if I can snap it in time! Fourteen weeks old this week and a fine young pup! 💙

Someone asked the other day why West is the last pup left. I'm so glad they asked, because it was a terrific teaching moment! I told him that most people like to pick a pup based on looks. I get that, as I have done it myself quite often. Almost all of my customers are experienced with terriers so it really doesn't bother me. But when pups are picked by appearance instead of temperament, what often happens is the jewel of the litter is overlooked. Case in point: West has become the most calm pup of the litter. He readily holds my gaze. He is a quick study with a good head on his shoulders.

He simply wasn't as flashy.

Like the creepy cave monster says in Aladdin: "One whose worth lies far within. The diamond in the rough."🔹
West, 12 weeks. Leash trained, sits, kennels, and doesn't bite.
