🍕🍦🍔 Happy National Eat What You Want Day! 🍩🌮🍟

While today might be the perfect excuse for an extra treat for us humans, it’s important to remember that many favorite foods can be dangerous for our pets.

🚫 Common pet toxins include:
• Chocolate
• Onions & garlic
• Grapes & raisins
• Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum/candy)
• Alcohol
• Macadamia nuts
• Lilies (especially toxic to cats)

Even small amounts of some of these can cause serious illness or become life-threatening.

If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, contact your veterinarian or emergency veterinary team right away. Our teams at Mountain West Veterinary Specialists are here when you need us. ❤️🐾

Today starts Client Coordinator Appreciation Week, and we are excited to celebrate our incredible CCs and DAs!

We want to take a moment to recognize and thank them for everything they do to keep our hospitals running smoothly each and every day. Their hard work, dedication, and compassion do not go unnoticed. They are often the first point of contact for our clients, offering kindness, reassurance, and support during some of the most stressful moments pet owners can face.

Please join us this week in showing your appreciation—whether it’s a kind word, a note of thanks, or simply taking a moment to recognize the important role they play on our team.

Today for our Together We Give campaign, we’re proud to spotlight Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR)—a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit making a meaningful difference for dachshunds across Salt Lake City and the surrounding Rocky Mountain region. 🐾

Founded in Utah, RMDR is committed to being a no-kill rescue, ensuring every dachshund they take in is given the chance for a safe, happy, and loving future. From standard to miniature, smooth to wire-haired to long-haired—and even doxie mixes—RMDR provides specialized care and advocacy for this beloved breed.

At the heart of their mission is a compassionate network of volunteers and foster families. These incredible individuals open their homes and hearts, offering temporary sanctuary, medical support, daily care, and plenty of love while each pup waits for their forever home. Their dedication helps each dog heal, adjust, and thrive.

RMDR goes above and beyond to match every dachshund (or bonded pair) with the right foster and ultimately the right forever family—ensuring lasting, successful placements built on care and understanding.

Please join us in saying THANK YOU to Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue for the life-changing work they do every day. 💙

If you’re able to support, consider donating to help RMDR continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming these amazing dogs. Every contribution helps give a dachshund a second chance at the life they deserve.

It’s National Dog Bite Prevention Week 🐶

A friendly reminder that even the most loving dogs can bite when they feel scared, stressed, or threatened. Prevention starts with understanding and respect—for both pets and people.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:
• Always ask before petting someone else’s dog
• Avoid approaching dogs that are eating, sleeping, or caring for puppies
• Learn body language — growling, stiff posture, or avoiding eye contact can signal discomfort
• Teach children to be gentle, calm, and respectful around animals
• Give dogs space when they seem anxious or overwhelmed

Dog bites are preventable, and awareness makes all the difference. By educating ourselves and our families, we can help keep both people and pets safe.

Let’s work together to build safer, more compassionate interactions with our canine companions 💙
