It’s the last couple of days to grab flowers for your love!

My Kansas City story …

My grandfather was a boilermaker here in Kansas City. When my mother was a baby, there was a time when work was slow. To keep money coming in, my grandfather moved his little family out to Las Vegas where they could stay with relatives and he could find work.

When the time came to return to Kansas City my grandmother told grandpa that she was ok staying in Las Vegas. She liked it there and enjoyed being close to that side of his family.

But grandpa said no. He had to return to Kansas City.

“My name is written in the soil there.”

My grandfather Sam believed Kansas City was the BEST city. And with that, they returned home.

Throughout my life I always felt the same - this magnetic draw to Kansas City. When I lived in Austin and Nashville, 2 very fun and vibrant cities, I never felt I truly belonged to them or them to me.

I once wrote that Kansas City with its fountains, green spaces, friendly people, love of the arts - was the most beautiful city I had ever known. I still feel the same.

Like my grandfather Sam, I told Carl that I wanted to return home. So 6 years ago, we did.

I’m not a big sports fan. But I am a Kansas City fan. I cried last night tears of joy for the city and people I love. This place is special and dare I say - magical. My grandfather knew that. ❤️
