Potty training your puppy? Here are a some things you might be feeling: excited, frustrated, hopeful, sleep deprived, stressed, AND maybe even a little bit like a detective decoding your puppy’s behavior!

Potty training requires your puppy to learn a number of concepts that they then must string together to be considered potty trained.

Every puppy is different AND learning to trust your puppy as they figure out the whole potty thing takes time. It’s completely normal to have a few (OR a lot) of setbacks, BUT each time you patiently guide your puppy through the process, you’re teaching them valuable lessons about how to be a successful member of the family.

It’s a brand NEW YEAR and we cannot wait to continue learning + growing with you in 2025!

With snow blanketing the ground, reminding us of all ways the new year can act as a fresh start, we try to remind ourselves that this time of year can also be the perfect opportunity to slow down. With less hours in the day (which means less vitamin D too!), it can seem like time is our most precious resource!

TO ALL our tired mothers out there: you don’t need to keep your puppy constantly entertained! Sleep is an important part of the equation - just like playing with friends or learning new things! Do you know how much sleep your dog OR puppy needs?

Why does my dog have selective hearing? How do I get them to listen?

If you’ve ever sought out answers to these questions, you’re not alone - we’ve been there too!

EMOTION + THOUGHT = BEHAVIOR and, although we prefer free behaviors, when we do have to manage our dogs with obedience commands, we need to make sure our obedience commands are proofed.

When we focus on relaxation and shaping a dog that feels calm + confident, the need to manage your dog will become less and less frequent too. (Which is really nice because that’s one less job for us!)

AND, to do this, we incorporate the three D’s - distance, duration, & distractions - when practicing our obedience commands! If you have questions about how to proof your obedience commands with your dog, comment below to get in touch!

We’d like you to meet Tucker! This amazing guy is looking for his forever home…

Tucker is a 1.5-year-old, 40 lb Chocolate Lab (mix) who loves cuddling and being close to his people - he’s happy to snuggle on the couch or be your hiking buddy! Tucker has never met a stranger and is submissive with other dogs and gentle with other animals as well as children.

His superpowers include being eager to please as he's a fast learner! Tucker comes when called and sits on command. He walks nicely on a leash and is well behaved around other dogs and animals. He goes into his crate with ease and loves to ride in the car.

Tucker is still working on house training, BUT he is smart and gets the hang of things quickly. He has already learned to ring a bell on the door when he needs to go potty!

Tucker would live his best life with a fenced in yard and an owner who works from home or has a hybrid schedule. Do you know anyone who might be the perfect match?

Currently, Tucker is with a foster in Loveland, OH and can be adopted through Louie's Legacy. If you have questions about this sweet guy OR think you or someone you know could be the one for Tucker, please just let us know!

Today, as we were hiking in the woods, we had a thought…

Your view creates your experience. Walking in a new direction made the whole woods look completely different.

Does your dog have a behavior problem OR a perception problem?

BECAUSE if you have a perception problem, but you use obedience commands to solve it - or try to solve it - you won’t necessarily change your dog’s perception.

You’ll just be controlling their behavior as a result of that perception.

Your view creates your reality.

If we instead shift your dog’s perception, the behaviors you really want will often follow naturally. How can we experience more confidence, joy, and fun?

As a mother-daughter team, we wanted to pause and take a moment to appreciate mothers and the bond we build caring for our kids. This day means a million different things and can bring about lots of emotions.

Wondering what you can do with your dog this winter with all this extra time indoors?

We are practicing our place command!

The place command is similar to a sit-stay or a down-stay, but it is essentially where we ask your dog to lay on something with a defined boundary. The goal is for your dog to just hang out there until we ask them to come off.

This is a nice little exercise if your dog is getting a little rowdy in the house—we can just say "hey, I need you to calm down" and you can ask them to go 'sit on the place' and wait until they are a little bit calmer. They will learn to release excess energy so they can be invited to try again!

Once your dog is having overwhelming success, you can up the distraction level, as you can see here when another dog walks into the room! We also encourage our dogs to be in a more relaxed position as the ultimate goal is for your dog to prefer this.
